I recommend starting with S1 -- that first season was a thing of beauty, in terms of watching the partnership develop.

Why would they block *anything*? It's a retirement community, not a prison?!

I should have been more clear: the blocks are only on the work station computers. None of this applies to the guest wi-fi (which is how I looked things up on my phone), and all of the residents have their own wi-fi so nothing is blocked on their computers, if they have one. (Some do, some don’t--the gentleman who called me to ask about a German violinist does not.)

Admin’s computers have a different set of allowances than the other employees. I have the same blocks that CNA’s do on the skilled nursing floor. From the perspective of IT, anything that isn’t directly work-related is a waste of time and is gonna get blocked. And that makes total sense if you’re on a computer that’s mostly used for charting people’s medications, or a maintenance person who is looking at their work orders. But for the concierge?! When we have so much downtime at that desk? 

The overnight employees almost never see residents between 11pm and 4am. Overnight concierge always have their phone out, or even just bring in their laptop to do homework or watch netflix. I was still working overnights twice a week when I first got into my current fandom, and I’d tear through entire author’s works in a night or two. I also got Amazon prime (Amazon isn’t blocked because maintenance uses it to order some supplies) and I do nearly all my Amazon shopping at work. (They also un-blocked etsy recently, which....really?!)

I meeeeannnn ... I was born here, and I’ve lived here a year here and a year there, but. Well. I was transplanted to the PNW at a tiny and formative age, and can only cope with weather between 33 and 76 degrees. I’m basically a moss. :D

last movie watched: Possession (1981), creepy psychosexual horror. this one was difficult to watch. it’s a graphically disturbing look at a woman (anna) losing her mind when her misogynist husband refuses to leave her alone until she finally fractures into multiple “selves”. once she is able to get away, her doppelganger appears to act as the husband’s angel of the house. another one of her “selves/sisters” goes on a murder spree after a private investigator discovers a tentacled hominoid (???) in her bed. it is very shocking but, aside from the penultimate tunnel scene, which is truly terrifying, the scenes that shocked me most didn’t have any gore--the ballet class; when the husband tries to force anna to sit quietly with him on the couch.

last song listened to: “miniskirt” by braids 

last book read: i’m on book two of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan novels

last thing eaten: a chocolate chip cookie 

if you could be anywhere right now, where would you be: a warm beach with friends and animals and music

a fictional character you would hang out with for the day: Lucy Snowe from Villette. i would like to be close to someone with that much inner strength. i would ask her how she kept going.

what fictional world/universe would you want to spend a week in: Margaret Cavendish’s cosmological scientific-utopian Blazing World with its various bird- and fish- and bear- and worm-men, with peaceful “Immaterial Spirits” who know everything about the universe, where if one atom “perishes” the whole of the natural world does too. also you can summon your earthly self via an umbilical-like passage between worlds, and souls can exist simultaneously in the same body.  

last video game played: one of my friends has talked to me a lot about mass effect. i’ll play tetris if i need something to do with my hands.

YOU’RE NOT HELPING. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW DIRE THE SITUATION IS? I HAVE THIRTY-ONE WIPS. THIRTY-ONE. And that’s only counting stories! There are another half-dozen vids in various stages of production!

Right?  With things like this, I get stuck between “eh it doesn’t last that long” and “what the actual frikking?”  It’s a recent development so we’ll see how it goes.  I mean...also he’s probably dislodging so much asbestos in the basement I should say something out of concern for his health, now that I think about it...

@soyeahso - yabbut also consider the number of people who hit and bounce off. I'll bet a good chunk of those hits are tag checks.

That’s definitely the case sometimes.  I have one fic where I know for sure it’s the case because it’s got major character death.  So I think I’m at like 4% on that one. (Too bad because it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written.)
