The battle was over, and Thorin Oakenshield awoke, naked and shivering, in the Halls of his Ancestors. The novelty of being dead fades quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt. Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a Dwarf of Durin's line with bright red hair.(Follows the story of the War of the Ring).(Bagginshield, Gimli/Legolas) In which recovery takes time, the dead members of the Company take to watching Gimli as though he’s a soap opera, the living struggle with being left behind, Legolas is confused, Khuzdul is abused, and Thorin is four feet and ten inches of guilt and anger.
I don't even know how to start talking about this fic without babbling like a complete idiot, when it comes to Sansûkh. I could be poetic , and I could write thousands and thousands of compliments, and it wouldn't even come close to my feelings for this wonderfully written story. Determamfidd had done it. She created a world that fits so closely to the Canon Tolkien-one that it leaves you completely agast. I certainly gasped when i tried to take all the research in, that this fic needed to exist. You can practically sense with how much love this fic is handled.
It seemes like determamfidd only plays with us readers, seduces us, tears us into pieces to build as anew . Or that's how I feeled, while reading it. it completely leaved me on the edge. So when I finally decided to write an article about it, I decided to read it from the very beginning.
And I suddenly lost a complete day. I reed it in one go. Without stopping. I just...I couldn't. I was so completely banned , so completely in love with the on-spot characterisation it downright hurt me in a physical way to close the tab. It is intelligently written, instructive in it's exact knowledge of every single character (meet a Dwarrowdam as an example) and it's believable view on the relationships between the characters makes it one of the most famous Stories in the Bagginshield fandom. It started out as an comedic constribution to the Hobbit prompt, but what Determafigg ended up writing was anything but. While it is dark and angsty ( and i would end up lying if I were to conceal how many times I bursted out into tears) ( stopped counting after the sixth time) , it still manages to be believable and catches the one or the other light tone. As far as stories go, it also definetly is one with the smoothes switch to places I've ever seen. The changes between the world to the living to the world of mahal himself are brilliantly written and don't confuse you. (which is an art in itself, as most of you writers know.) But one of the best parts about this story is the transformation Thorins character goes through. Even if the Story itself is thorin!centered, it managed to be believable slow and to explore other relationships as well. And don't even get me started on the relationship between Thorin and Bilbo or Legolas and Gimli. This fic is the definition of a slow burn. An no, that won't happen. It's likely that i end up crying again because of it. This rec already sounds like a loveletter to Determamfidd , I couldn't contain my excitement.
What I tried to say? Read it. NOW.
