Chapter 3: Memory of a Witch

Yayyyyyy Raki’s back 🙄 lmao (in all seriousness I don’t /completely/ hate him... I just think he’s naive af)

I understand why Raki is here. He’s used so that Clare has to explain things to him (& therefore the reader)

I’ve heard a few people say “Raki is Clare’s love interest” or whatever else along those lines; I definitely don’t think that’s the case. Clare & Raki share a very special bond (not unlike that of Teresa & Clare [and I think Yagi was trying to show those parallels]) it’s something I don’t think anyone can help when they’ve been saved like Teresa saved Clare & Clare saved Raki. Both Clare & Teresa are shocked when the child they saved isn’t afraid of them & continues to follow them.

Can we talk about that yoma dressed up as a warrior for a minute? Is this the only female yoma we’ve come across? Because I don’t remember any others. I wonder why that is? I know the organization puts yoma flesh into men bevause it causes them to turn into awakened beings but is it the same thing for yoma? Do women just not turn into yoma? Or do yoma become genderless? I don’t know lol (UPDATE: Clare still called the yoma “him”???? Idk man lol)

Where did that yoma get her armour? She couldn’t have killed a warrior for it because it wasn’t even dirty.

In Clare’s first flashback we see that her brother turned into a yoma and killed her parents... and then a warrior killed him as he was attacking her. But that warrior wasn’t Teresa... which means that after she was saved the first time her town cast her out AS A YOUNG CHILD and then another yoma picked her up to use as his play thing????? That’s fucking horrible.

Clare saying “you can follow me until we reach a town where you want to live in” is so funny to me. Sis.... you know how that turned out for Teresa! Lmao

The claymore's with the pointed ears. What's that about?

Yagi never explicitly states why some warriors get pointed ears.

Yagi might be trying to convey that they are elf-like (tall, slender, and with fair complexions)

But, to my recollection, if a yoma has ears they are almost always pointed, & when warriors awaken their ears are usually if not always pointed (sorry, I’m at work and don’t have my books for reference lol)

Yagi could also be alluding to the fact that if a warrior has pointed ears she’s stronger than the average warrior. Warriors with pointed ears are: Cassandra (former number 1), Irene/Ilena (former number 2), Ophelia (former number 4), and the only other warrior I can think of off the top of my head is Queenie (I think she was number 20?) and although she was not a single digit, I believe she was one of the last few fighters up north before everyone was incapacitated or killed.

But that’s just a theory lol

Oookayyyyy I cleaned it up and I think it came out pretty good. I just tweaked and redrew some aspects. I honestly like this design so much I may do more with this (fan fic… maybe?). This was really fun and now I have my own super form for best girl. As of now, this is the final step for me but idk do you guys have any ideas for color pallets?

And as usual, I’m eager to receive feedback/critiques.

Alright! This this my finished piece for a claymore fanwork challenge. I decided to do Undine because she’s just really cool to me. Honestly while I do like it for the most part, my feelings are a tad mixed. Mostly with lighting and drawing the yoki aura. I may revisit this at some point. Regardless, I had a blast making this. Hope you guys like it!

Here's a question: If all claymores have stitches along their torsos, do they have to restitch themselves after every time they get a hole in their chests/stomachs? Ever since that reveal, I keep wondering...

I would imagine so? I mean, Clare gets hit in the abdomen fairly early in the series. Now this could have been something Yagi didn’t think about till much later, but it would make sense? Deneve’s pretty good with stitching her up when Clare’s wound was exposed after emerging from the Destroyer. 

It makes for a nice headcanon, that the warriors know how to self-stitch themselves to a degree.
