WELL, Today is my last day in chemistry. -,-
It's been real clinical chemistry.
And it's been almost great.

What should you be more scared of than getting your blood drawn.
Don't ever tell your patient this list unless you feel like scaring the shit out of them!
phlebotomy, order of draw and equipment
This was really freaking hard for me to understand during the lectures. >,< But this visual is so helpful!

Pick up lines... Classy ;)
Unfortunately I live in a region where the dialysis patient population is at it's highest. But, I have observed many things throughout my clinical rotation about dialysis patients and about the dialysis machine itself. For one, it is an amazing piece of technology.
However, these patient's require multiple blood transfusions, plasma transfusions and platelet transfusions. Because the patient's liver is unable to filter the blood this machine does it for them. However, I have observed many infections associated with this machine. Several patients will become septic with psudeomonas spp even fairly new organisms you most likely would not find in a textbook. And their chemistry work ups are insane.
So from an internal perspective I tend to feel sorry for dialysis patients. Especially if we need to redraw a specimen because their sample was too hemolyzed and they are already all bandaged up from being stuck with a needle. >.<
Gram Staining. Step by step
Tips:
When decolorizing you don't actually need to run the alcohol for 10 to 30 seconds.
To get the best results slowly pour the alcohol on the slide until you no longer see the excess color dripping off. Then rinse with water.
To be completely honest it doesn't hurt to keep the safranin on for more than a minute.
It is recommended to keep the crystal violet on for the same amount of time you keep the safranin on.
Blot holding your slide side ways between each rinse.
