the only issue i have with this is that the gem shards didn't fuse because they were buried together. garnet said they were buried together bc they were their comrades in arms, other crystal gems who had fallen in war. they were found by homeworld authorities or gems and forcefully fused, possibly as "punishment for resisting"

yes that’s something im still working out the details to. i wasn’t sure if garnet meant that she and the other crystal gems had buried the shards as a sign of reverence or if homeworld had taken the shards and buried them themselves hence the line “all the ones we couldn’t find, they’ve been here the whole time” since they already had gem shards bubbled in the temple (see: secret team). either way im sort of dancing between the other members of the d.a. buried quartz and pink together and fused their shards bc they knew they wanted a “gem baby” or they fused their shards together in an attempt to bring just pink diamond back but that didn’t happen. 

in the case of the latter i would alter my theory to pink diamond was shattered and they used pieces of quartz to try and piece her back together not considering the altering properties the quartz shards may contain
