Petrol and Diesel Prices Rise Again: Fourth Hike in 10 Days Adds Pressure on Common People
Fuel prices across India have increased once again, with petrol becoming ₹2.61 per litre costlier and diesel rising by ₹2.71 per litre from May 25, 2026. This marks the fourth fuel price hike in May alone, raising concerns over the growing burden on household expenses and transportation costs.
Oil companies stated that the increase is due to rising global crude oil prices and the weakening Indian rupee, which has pushed up import costs. Petrol prices in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai have crossed significant levels, further impacting commuters and businesses.
People have expressed frustration over the repeated hikes, saying a large part of their daily income is now being spent on fuel. Citizens are also urging the government to take steps to control rising petrol and diesel prices amid ongoing inflation concerns.
