gx680 film back battery replacement

Hi all, after my last walkabout shoot with the GX, I am really falling in love with it. It's like a mamiya RZ plus. 115mm 3.2 lens seems as sharp as the RZ 110mm, wlf is even larger and the focusing is just as engaging with front movements. I particularly like the shutter button which is an electronic soft-touch one. The Acton is very positive but using it makes no movement to the camera itself. Downsides are the weight, f5.6 lenses are dark indoors, and the film backs for series I and II have an internal battery so they can track the exposure number electronically and relay the info to the cameras body when it is turned on.  Mine has died and I started to lose 1 exposure per roll from 8 to 7! The battery needed is a 1/2AA 3.6v which needs to have solder tabs built in. Google it for info.

You need to have a soldering iron. I'm looking forward to getting this sorted asap so I can continue exploring this camera's talents.

Walkabout cameras

Hi all, so I’ve been considering a fuji x110T as a good walkabout camera.  Having tried one recently my biggest gripe is that when you look through the finder when on optical mode (like a traditional camera) the view is very uninspiring, it’s more of an aid to see what’s within the frame rather than actually seeing what’s in front of you.  I have the same problem with my D700 which atm I am loathe to shoot.  Peering through a keyhole like eyepiece to just about make out a tiny image feels so wrong. I actually wonder if camera companies are deliberately making viewfinders smaller and less easy to focus by eye?  This would help shift more and more autofocus lenses and help bring obseletion to legacy lenses (also helping to boost new lens sales).  Modern cameras seem to be less and less about seeing and more about techy kit.  Enough of my conspiracy theories!  So I have recently been taking my Mamiya RZ on walkabout (no strap, no bag, no grip) and today I felt like pushing the envelope a bit and took my Fuji GX680 out on walkabout.  It’s a tricky camera to hold (my other hand carrying a tripod) and my arms started to ache after 10 mins! This was when having 8 shots rather than 10 seemed to be an advantage!  The WLF is slightly larger than the RZ and just as engaging to use. I thought about having that small digi walkabout camera with me instead of the beast.  And it makes sense, except that when you get home the photos -the whole reason for my walkabouts- would be something I would not feel excited about.  So I am happy to carry about inconvenient kit and struggle if it means that when I get my photographs I am proud of what I have made.  Any camera can be a walkabout camera, it just depends on what you are willing to give up in terms of convenience, in exchange for shooting experiences and image quality.
