Hi there! I've applied for the Fulbright ETA in Germany and am just waiting to hear back about the final decision. I was wondering if you remember when you found out that you were wait listed? They give such a large window (March - May) I was just trying to get a better idea of when the Germans usually notify people :) Thanks! Hope you're enjoying Austria!
Hi Dancing Gen! Congrats on being recommended as a finalist—you’re already awesome :)
I heard that I was designated an alternate during the end of March (I don’t remember the exact date—it was right at the end of my spring break). The nice thing was that I received my acceptance from Austria a week later, so that cheered me up. I was promoted from alternate to selected in late May, but at that point had already committed to Austria and bought an airplane ticket, so I decided not to accept. I know if you are designated an alternate, they will keep you on the waiting list all the way into the academic year (in case someone drops out, I assume) unless you request otherwise. Crossing my fingers for you that you’ll be selected though!
I know that this year notifications seem to be coming out a bit earlier (some countries have already sent them!) so that’s in your favor. It’s so frustrating to have to wait so long—I think for some countries, people find out a decision around the same time they graduate! I’d definitely recommend you check out the Fulbright forum on The GradCafe. Great place for commiseration and support, “meet” people you will be in Germany with if selected, etc. There is a link there to a (self-reported) spreadsheet with notification data from the last three or four years as well as this year.
