Actually sad. So excited to go home and everything that means, but the end of my year feels a bit tragic to this sentimental year. It has been incredible--so grateful to the students, teachers, and teaching assistants who touched my life and made this experience what it was.

You’re only in Austria for a year?
As of now, yeah--it's a one-year contract. Even if I'm renewing for a second year (I don't know about that yet), I have to come back to the US over the summer for visa reasons (and I'd be coming back anyway...so many babies to visit!)
Just wanted to say I love your blog :) I'm applying for a Fulbright to Germany and Austria, and I was wondering if you can use the same personal statement for both applications. I don't want to seem like I'm not being genuine by using the same essay for different countries, but my reasons for wanting to go are basically the same... any advice?

Considering that your personal statement probably mentions the specific programs and/or country names, at a bare minimum you need to edit it to reflect that. Also, Austria's requirement is just for one statement. What I did is conflated my SGP and PS from the Germany application into one statement of about 2 pages, with some major edits because some of my interests in the two countries were different, and sent that to Austria. It worked out great, because here I am! If you want to send me your statement for editing or thoughts I'd honestly be happy to do it--just message me un-anonymously so I can give you my email. If you do that I can also give you some other thoughts/advice privately. Also, see this post that I did for some thoughts on the differences between the programs.
