The Good News!
Let me just say this, Fulbright chose me. Yes, I know that there is an extensive application process there is a semi-finals and finals round, some have to interview, so no Fulbright didn't call and say we need you, but it also wasn’t something I was working toward in college. My sophomore year I received an email from our Fulbright coordinator and she asked if I would be interested in Fulbright, based off my college career, it looked like I may be a great contender.I had done research in Kenya about women’s right, I majored in Spanish and had a few leadership opportunities under my belt. So, I looked into Fulbright saw how exceptional it was and began to improve my trajectory. I took more risks, went back to Kenya, studied in Ecuador, etc. I wanted to be exceptional and in the process improve and help my college community where it was needed.
I will never forget how I received the news. I was sitting in my Public Policy class, on my laptop, (it was toward the end of the semester of my senior of college so the motivation was low) and there it is, a Fulbright notification on the left corner of my screen. I mentally prepare myself for the rejection, so that it doesn't show in class, my heart can be audibly heard and I click it... CONGRATULATIONS! I immediately leave class and run to the hallway, I call my mom to tell her, and she screams of enjoyment! That was the moment my life changed.
