Happy New Year! I can’t believe it when I look back and see the date of your last letter – 21 September. 3.5 months. In that time, I have got engaged, travelled with you in Mexico, moved house and other changes are afoot as well. Each year, we have a theme for the year. And whilst we choose them individually, they complement each other and serve to help illuminate each other’s path. This year, my theme is Year of the Heart. And your theme is the Year of Intuitive Living (correct me if I’m wrong!).
And whilst I hadn’t consciously connected our most recent letters to this theme, looking back I can see a clear link to what we had been discussing. The heart is all about feeling rather than thought, about listening to your heart. I love this quote from Joseph Campbell – “The goal of life is to make you heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with nature.” And this sums up for me what I aim to work towards in the ‘Year of the Heart’.
And to do this, it involves listening to the wisdom of your body, your heart, your feelings. I hadn’t really made the link before between ‘feelings’ the emotion and feeling it in your body – which you point out in your letter.
I have just ordered a book today which had been recommended by a friend of ours, Christiana, which is called “Cellular Awakening: How Your Body Creates and Hold Light”. Christiana quoted this passage from it:
"We are vibrational beings and we need to vibrate in harmony with our universe if we are to fulfil our true potential. It is time for us to come to understand what it means to be in resonance so that we can beat and pulse together instead of living in this world that we have created where everything is in opposition."
This is another way of saying what Joseph Campbell said. I like this idea that we are vibrational beings – it is about the energy that we are made up of vibrating. And the image of vibration makes clear about how we are all connected. Our vibration affects the vibration of people around us, and vice versa. There is so much more to explore in this idea, and I look forward to doing so over the coming year.
I also like this idea that ‘we need to vibrate in harmony with our universe if we are to fulfil our true potential’. It is obvious. How can we fulfil our potential if we are out of harmony? I have spent years trying to work out what my purpose is, how I can fulfil my potential, knowing that there is something else that I want to do, but not being able to put my finger on it – or most probably just not being willing to listen. So it comes back to the point that the important thing to do is to create the conditions for your work to come into being, to be working towards vibrating in harmony with the universe, to have your heartbeat match that of nature, and then the rest will follow. I go back to the answer that I wrote in 2009 to one of my questions: “What does listening to yourself with love sound like?” I wrote then that: “Listening to yourself with love sounds like gentle waves on a sunny day, or the freshness of a forest glade. Listening to yourself with love is the sound of calm, of crickets chirruping in a field”. All natural images. Nature matching nature.
I would love to hear about your year of Intuitive Living.
