Taking a Break from Seeing, Speak to the Tail.
Or: Sight is illegal, no face for you.
(This is a morning doodle inspired by (1) the summer is bright and that is displeasing, (2) I don’t think I've drawn Ed's tail with its fur grown out? And (3) hiss to everything, it's time for a break.)
Knightmare and Darach chapters 6&7 are live. Two massive chapters both I was too tired to post about here after finally uploading them yesterday and the day before lol. Just a heads up, today there may or may not be a chapter as I am mentally dying and profoundly exhausted from my day job. Luckily, tomorrow's friday and I'll have plenty of time this weekend to write while catching up on sleep, and then we'll be into end-game territory for this fic!! Thanks so much for all the love it's received so far!

46.“it’s okay, i’m here.”
Having a baby in the apocalypse was certainly not Daryl’s idea of a barrel of laughs but he wouldn’t change a damn thing, not for the world.
He surprised himself at how easily he fell into the role. The first few months of Carol’s pregnancy he’d been riddled with anxiety, terrified he’d somehow turn out just like his father had been. He pulled away from her, that guilt still laying heavy now, busying himself with runs for baby supplies, going out again and again until there was nothing that baby would ever want for in the world.
And she didn’t, not that the baby was yet self aware but anyone with eyes could see that Daryl denied his little girl nothing. Carol often scolded him at how quick he was to give into her when she cried out during the night but he’d simply claim he didn’t want her to wake the rest of the house.
Carol was overwhelmed at how amazing he’d been with her, never hesitating to take the night feed, change dirty diapers, clean up every spontaneous hiccup of sick. He’d get up with her in the morning so Carol could have an hours extra sleep, stayed up with her from dusk until dawn the one time she caught a fever.
Today was no different to the others, Carol waking up the soft glow of light filtering through the curtains telling her it was still early before she noticed the absence of her partner.
Padding quietly down the hall, Carol peered silently into the room she knew she’d find Daryl.
“Shhh,” Daryl hushed, bouncing the fidgety baby girl in his arms. “It’s okay, I’m here, daddy’s here.”
Using the back of one of his fingers, he wiped away her tears, pausing when she reached up and gripped the bent finger, shoving it into her mouth side on.
Daryl chuckled as she gnawed down on it, gurgling happily now she had something to chew on.
“Those gums of yours givin’ ya a hard time huh baby girl?” he asked his sleepy daughter, opening and closing her eyes slowly. “Won’t be long ‘til those teeth start comin’ through, then y’all have something to complain ‘bout. Believe me, lil’ ass kicker screamed something chronic when she was teething. Don’t worry sweetheart, daddy’ll try and find ya somethin’ to soothe those nasty pains.”
“I know a few home remedies,” Carol spoke quietly, noting their daughter was now soundly asleep, Daryl’s finger still proving as a chew toy.
“Know should’ve jus’ let her sleep it off, but she was callin’ out dada, and I jus’…”
“Weak man,” Carol smirked. Ever since their baby girl had started saying dada last week Daryl was at her beck and call even more so than before, the girl seemingly knowing that was the way to get his immediate attention.
“She’s got me wrapped around her little finger,” he admitted as he placed her gently in her crib, smoothing over her soft head of dark hair. “Much like her mama.”
“Oh I’d say I’ve definitely fallen into second place,” Carol teased, grinning as he wrapped her into his arms.
“Never,” he promised kissing her sweetly. “Both my number one girls.”
A Fox's Tail is Harder to Hide
Image Description: Elle in casual clothes (black and red) glancing over his shoulder, expression playful and amused. His tail is in full fluff and ears are as perked as they can go. He's holding his coat in his hands, and his hair is down. It looks like he caught someone looking at his tail and is being cheeky at their shock.
Extras under the cut.
The above is just so that we're clear.
(He can go between Fine Fluff and Full Fluff at will, the same way Heinkel and the other human chimeras can switch forms. He cannot, however, get rid of the tail.)
