Happy New Year with a Full Moon in Cancer
January 1 2018
Tonight we have a supermoon full moon in Cancer to bring us into the new year. This is auspicious in a number of ways—full moons signal the culmination of something, a phase coming to an end. Being a supermoon, its strength is magnified, as it is closer to the earth. You can see in the chart that the moon and sun are at 11 degrees 37 minutes, with the moon forming a grand trine with Neptune in Pisces and conjunct Mars and Jupiter in Scorpio. A grand water trine—highly positive and fortunate, and in water, an emotional time of strong feelings that will last for awhile, as full moons have a long-term effect.
However, on the 31st, the next full moon will not only be a supermoon, but an eclipse with the moon in Leo—the first eclipse since our solar new moon eclipse in Leo in late August. That was the beginning of a new phase, and this will signal the culmination and shift. But more on that later in the month.
As you can see by the chart, there is a kite formation with the sun and moon forming the center of the kite. The grand trine also provides the base for a smaller triangle of potential with a sextile from Mars and Jupiter connecting to the sun in Capricorn along with a matching sextile from Neptune connecting to the sun. This offers opportunities that bring emotional, psychic, and creative energy into the energy of the full moon. Neptune in its home, Pisces, relates to intuitive energy and spiritual connection, as well as a high level of creativity. Scorpio brings in a knowing of the secrets and mysteries of life—a psychic connection to other spiritual levels, and entities. Mars enhances the energy and spontaneity of this psychic energy. Jupiter expands it, digs deep, and brings it out into the world. The sun in Capricorn, focuses on making these possibilities part of our reality—since Capricorn represents earth, reality, the ordinary world. Ruled by Saturn which brings ideas into reality.
Neptune also represents creative energy—our dreams, our flights of fancy, our imaginative journeys. The sun in Capricorn focuses on making those dreams and fantasies real—manifestation through tying in the reality of life (sun in Capricorn) to the emotions and feelings that comfort us (the moon in Cancer). Feelings combined with imagination and belief can be grounded and made real. One more key element—Venus, love, joy (Venus is conjunct the sun in Capricorn). Love (in the form of Venus) connects to what is ours. These are sparked by the passion of Mars to the emotions (moon) in a highly positive way, and to dreams and imagination via spiritual connection (Neptune).
It’s a recipe for manifestation, connecting the spiritual, imagination, love, emotion/feelings with passion—bringing emotion and earth together.
On a mundane level – out in the world—we have the North Node (our social destiny) conjunct with Ceres (the mothering instinct, the nurturer and comfort through food—representing agriculture, our food supply, our nourishment) square to Mars and Jupiter in Scorpio. Mars and Jupiter dig deep and with gusto to uncover the secrets hidden in the Scorpio energy—what is unknown, what has yet to be discovered—through research and investigation. There could be stressful, negative issues that are discovered that could be affecting our social destiny related to food and nourishment.
Interestingly, Mars/Jupiter are sextile to Pluto in Capricorn, which is also sextile to Neptune and to Chiron in Pisces. This is a triangle or double triangle of potential with Pluto as the center—Pluto is the authority, the government, the boss, the leader or the expert. It is also drastic change in the world—in responsibility, in business, in taking things seriously. If the government or the leader takes the discoveries seriously, or takes responsibility there could be a positive outcome. Pluto sextile to Neptune (which it has been for awhile)—could be a spiritual, intuitive or creative connection to the government or leader that could have a positive outcome. Focus spiritual and intuitive energy on the government, on the leadership, and on the drastic change that is happening, and there could be a positive outcome as a result. In addition, the trine between Neptune and Mars/Jupiter, brings a chance of clarifying (Neptune can mean confusion) what is being uncovered and discovered (Mars/Jupiter), which could have a positive effect on the government leadership (Pluto). Psychic energy from both the Scorpio planets and Neptune in Pisces, could work out positively for drastic change if action is taken.
Pluto sextile to Chiron can relate to the chance for healing old wounds or improving health issues if action is taken, related to what is discovered that could possibly have a negative effect on nourishment and food for our social destiny.
Mercury in Sagittarius and Saturn in early Capricorn are both widely trine to Uranus in Aries. Mercury is what we think about, how we communicate, and what we agree to, and Saturn is working hard, taking responsibility. Uranus is surprise, unpredictable action (in Aries, could be action or attacks). The highly positive trine is helpful to an unexpected issue that comes up, whether it is a fire, an explosion, a fight or argument. Mercury in Sagittarius can mean that legal decisions are made or a philosophical discussion, a publication or broadcast or international announcement that comes up to positively diffuse the self-centered or renegade behavior. OR it could be a high tech energy creation that is being publicized, discussed, or given legal consideration. Saturn there, too, helps make long-term development likely for such a creation, or in the event of an unpredictable action, Saturn keeps it in check and puts up boundaries—resulting in a very positive outcome.
With Saturn and the Sun, Venus and Pluto in Capricorn, we are going to be focused on conservative values, business, and working hard for what we want. However, it also means that leadership (Pluto) will be under scrutiny—will be held accountable (Capricorn) according to values (Venus) that we hold important in our home country (moon in Cancer).
Astrologer Pam Gregory says that the multiple planets in water and earth mean that we will be focused on our environment, the earth, ecology. With Uranus in Aries, there could be extreme weather events—and when Uranus moves into Taurus in a few months, its disruptive energy in the earth sign could result in earthquakes and environmental issues (sinkholes? Toxicity?)
With all the planets in Capricorn—work and business and corporations will be involved in government (Pluto) and Uranus moving into Taurus—there could be revolutionary OR digitized developments in banking and finance that are extreme alternatives to what we are familiar with.
But that all lies ahead this year. This month we have a full supermoon today, a new moon on the 17th and a full moon lunar eclipse on the 31st in Leo (a “blue”moon—which is a second full moon in one month). A special month ahead.
If you carry or wear crystals and stones, clear them under the full moon tonight.
