I’ve been feeling motivated to work on my big Twigling girls since my Lilac Nkiru arrived. I tackled some long over due sueding and ended up with a nice collection of dolls present to show the four different bust sizes. I didn’t bring a Pieta down or an Eloy so they’re the two missing head sculpts from this line up. But from left to right, Khalo, sleeping Ingenue, Gamine X3, Nkiru, Elbe and Oryx. This line up includes all my fantasy resin big girls…except my Obsidian Elf Ingenue. Finished sueding Lilac Nkiru last night. I let her sit overnight as I used a new glue and wasn’t sure of it’s drying time. Reese has always stated that her dolls were made with sueding in mind, and from personal experience you won’t get the full enjoyment of a Twigling doll’s posing without it. I use a full coverage sueding technique I learned originally from Den of Angels. I made this sueding pattern several years ago now and have been using the same one with small adjustments for many, many Twigling dolls over the years. I use a masking tape method in the joints themselves to make the pattern. I use real suede and various faux suedes. I like to use a thicker material in the hip joints then something thinner for all the rest of the joints. My suede supply has dwindled and my efforts to find suitable substitutes have thus far been pretty unsuccessful. But it’s been a good method and I’ve sueded numerous big girls and also the mini’s in this way. Obligatory Twigling post sueding photos! My new Ebony Minigenue standing on her tipey toes! 💃🏻 I love these girls ♥️ I used a faux suede, and people always ask where I got it but I’m sorry to say I don’t know from where. Sueded the blue Minigenue yesterday. The small girls are so much more fiddly and difficult to suede then the big ones, each piece has to be so EXACT. And I discovered I’d never actually made a pattern for the arms. Oops. By that point I was getting migrainey, so said screw it and just hot glue sueded them instead. 😆 But her torso joint, hips and legs are full coverage sueded with a lovely thin blue suede sent to me by @mismantis. I make a pattern with painters tape. But even with my pattern there was still a ton of trimming and fussing required with the small size. But oh my gosh is it worth it! She went from a rag doll, incapable of even sitting up, to a posing pro! 😁👌 A side note, this is a Version 1, Minigenue. They absolutely require sueding to be able to sit up or to stand. I don’t have the Version 2 body yet but supposedly a lot of adjustments were made to the legs and I’m hearing these girls are standing without sueding! I’m going to be very excited to see them for myself.
