Motivate Your Children To Read Books
Reading is a good habit. Not only that it helps student academically, but it also increases attention power, promotes analytical thinking and makes them smart. Some kids love to read from the very childhood naturally and you do not have to face any problem with these kids. But, the problem is that most of the children do not love to read and it is a great challenge to motivate those unwilling children to become book lovers.
In a workshop held in a primary school of Fullerton CA, the childcare experts opine that before imposing book reading habit on your kids, you have to understand the reason behind your children’s apathy towards reading books – perhaps your kids can not read well, or they find reading is boring or you have not given them the right books to read.
Montessori caregivers offer few tips to parents to enhance the reading habit of the children.
At first, choose colorful storybooks for your infant so that they get attracted to the appearance of the book. Place the books beside their toys and board games so that they start to think that books are also as attractive as their toys and an inseparable part of their life.
Read books for the children from a very early age not only at bedtime but all through the day during lunch, after school, or whenever you get extra time.
Take them to the local library at least once a week if possible. They become overwhelmed when they find so many types of books in the children’s corner of the library and start loving books. If possible consult the librarian to know what type of books children like most of the time.
Do not force or push your children too much to read books because too much forcing may create your child’s phobia to book. If he or she is not showing any interest in books, leave the issue, for the time being, else they may be a book hater for the rest of the life.
If possible create a cozy reading corner at home for your child. That special space may be an encouragement to your child. This cozy corner may motivate your child to spend enough time with good books.
When your child is very much reluctant then try to start his reading habit with comics. Comics are easy to read and the pictures tell most of the thing. For which they do not need to spend their brain much. Tintin Series, Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes, English translation of Asterix, etc. are good comics that help to enhance the sophisticated vocabulary of the child.
Make sure that the books you are giving to your children to read are appropriate for them. Provide them with those books only that are not beyond their reading ability. If they find the book too hard to understand, very dry to enjoy, and unable to understand the meaning, your effort will be in vain.
Encourage your children to exchange books with their siblings and friends. This will help them to read a variety of books. Encourage your elder children to read for their younger brothers and sisters.
