One of the most insightful panels for those looking to find out who they are as a brand was hosted this year by Phil Pallen, brand strategist, and social media expert. On a daily basis, Phil Pallen works with celebrities, TV personalities and entrepreneurs to develop their brand. In this 4 part series of branding workshops, Phil dives into different parts of creating your brand so that you can graduate knowing who you are and what you want. During his first branding workshop, he talked about positioning yourself as a professional and figuring out who you are as a professional.
When figuring out your brand, you need objective feedback “don’t ask your friends and family” Pallen says. For this part of the lecture, Phil set up a little exercise for us to do, we divided into groups and shared our story to one another replying in one sentence what the other person's brand was. This is a great way to get objective feedback. Phil Pallen recommends doing this exercise a few times with different people to narrow down who you are as a brand. It is important to start using your brand sentence, because if you describe yourself in that way, Phil says “Others will describe you with that sentence when you’re not in the room.”
Phil Pallen also shared the questions he often asks his clients when helping them develop their brand and here they are:
Describe yourself in three words (Pallen even suggested to try asking this question to friends on Facebook and see what people say the most).
Three things I wouldn’t know from looking at you.
Name a few brands that you look up to? Why? (The why is the most important part).
What do you love to do? (Create a job based on passion).
What's your brand in one sentence?
Describe your audience in detail. (Be very specific, give them a name and personality).
These are the questions you can ask yourself that helps develop your brand.

Hall of Fame week is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean the day is slowing down. In fact it is just moving faster and the energy level is only getting higher. One of the first panels of the day was “Filmmaking From Beginning To End: Editing to Post Production” hosted by Michael Orlowski, and it was a full house.
The panel consisted of Visual Effects artist Cully Bunker, Sound Editor and Designer David Farmer, TV and Movie producer Priscilla Rojas and Sound Mixer/Editor Frank Schuering. The panelists covered every phase of post production that goes into making a film.
Cully Bunker shed light on the visual effects that needs to be added to films and the steps they go through to deal with the “fix it in the post” situations.
David Farmer shared his experience he gained from several years in creating and editing sounds and effects. Frank Scheuring added on the same topic with his own experiences and methods of working.
Priscilla Rojas explained how all the post production works and how to deal with various situations from a producer’s perspective.
All the panelists shared their methods of working in their fields and dealing with clients and walked through their processes in completing a job.
Quick Q&A phases added to the session with thoughtful questions from the attendees. The session can be seen in full on Full Sail’s YouTube page here.
