#Repost @fultonpublicart with @get_repost ・・・ For the month of March, the Public Art Program is showcasing women artists in our permanent art collection. Today's featured artist is Rose Barron aka @rosembarron; we asked ’as an artist, what motivates you to find your own power’: ”In my studio practice, I often collaborate with other women artists to explore our female identity in relation to the larger social constructs and how these constructs inform our connections. The work develops within a constantly shifting, non-hierarchical relationship in which we are mutually committed to one other and we are both the teacher and the student for the other. Intersectional discussions of race, socio-economic conditions, sexual identity, and how the politics of these issues are handled within Atlanta (a “progressive” city in the Deep South) are major influences on the art. The frustrations and experiences we share from marginalization and misogyny are the root of our art-making and artistic actionism. We use abstract expressions of our sexual energy as an escape from the patriarchy and the societal expectations of female sexuality.” We recently purchased Rose’s piece ‘Before the Storm’, which will be installed in one of 14 libraries currently being renovated. #womenshistorymonth #womenartists #FultonPublicArt #publicart #artwork #artoninstagram #atlantaartist #atlantawomenartists #atlantawomeninart #georgiawomenartist https://www.instagram.com/p/BviP05mA5jv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13ew6c2x9qvns
