Garble has spent quite a bit of time at the dragon lord's cave since she asked him to teach her how to write poetry. Although he never overstepped his bounds, his friends started making inappropriate jokes about the situation...

One thing about Rusty is how D&P insisted that he was meant to be read as a physical failure of a man: inevitable small penis, on the short side, baldness, strange facial hair, skinny fat with no perceptible muscles, man tits (in midnight chrysalis especially), weird fur around nipples and armpits, huge nose, small eyes, glasses, vampiric skin tone. They then proceed to show this man naked a considerable amount of times, in positions that would predate the “let’s put male superheroes in female heroes poses and see how natural that looks to you” trend, overexpose his inner workings too via an excessive focus on his behaviors specifically (by virtue of his being the protagonist), end it with giving him frustrated hypersexuality.

By the end of the show I empathized with this character so hard I started to find him attractive. Yet the only woman in the show who ever did that was Myra, and she was framed as crazy. I’ll take offense at that, but not too much.

D&P you aren’t fooling anyone. Among the many things he is, Rusty is also the incarnated projection of your insecurities as cis males. You mask your request for love in your insistence that he’s an unlovable loser. You might even deem the women who love you despite your melodrama a bit crazy for doing so.

Thing is: nobody really cares about ugliness. We are a species wired for connection. If that part is strong, every part of the other’s body will become lovely in our eyes.

As usual, I don’t know where I’m going with this. Possibly that I love D&P and their vulnerable, imperfect show.
