Sorry to copy and paste a screen capture, but I could not find this post to save my life, and had to get this off my chest-
As someone who is deeply invested in ancient European mythos, yet who’s family history is very “How the West was Won,” this speaks to me on a spiritual level.
Like, it’s not just the daylight verses nighttime going on here, there is also a “masculine space” and “feminine space.” Not to say that anyone can’t get in on either space they want, but there is an attitude in either space that means you have to prove yourself to the respective gender to be accepted into that fold.
Cowboys are very “we are going to stand here in our obvious physical power and intimidate you into behaving yourself” and “come get roust with us and help round up these wild critters,” but if the situation calls for it, they will quietly do something crafty and clever.
Meanwhile, the witches are all “we know things you don’t and if that doesn’t scare you then you are even stupider than you look,” and “sneak out of your house tonight to help us hex the baron, he’s been abusing his power again,” but if the situation really truly calls for it, they will show up in mass, backs straight and tall, pointing fingers and pronouncing doom.
And I love the idea of rather than those two forces being in conflict, those two forces deeply respecting each other’s power and spaces and calling for aid when the situation needs something they themselves are not good at.
And having all those discussions over the brewing of moonshine. 😂🥰
