I’m not really sure, it’s something that has come up every now and then, but take, for example, the careers of Kai Havertz and me… He actually says, for the first six months, I basically ignored him, like I didn’t speak to him. But that wasn’t because I had anything against him. It was like, “Bro, you just arrived, you’re a youth player”. Of course, once we’re on the pitch, we help one another, but it’s not like I’m going around saying, “Hey, let me show you around Cologne,” or “Why don’t you show me… Do you want to come to Aachen so I can introduce you to my parents?” You just don’t do things like that. At the end of the day, it’s simply football. It’s just a job. It’s a passion, sure, but it’s also a job. It’s not necessarily the case that just because you’re contractually part of the same team starting July 1st, you’re suddenly 23 best friends. But then, over time, you naturally start interacting with each other more and more, because you’re together in the dressing room. Eventually, you start getting along well, and that’s when those kinds of things begin to form.
