Ashley's Struggle

   It was a very gloomy day and everyone except Ashley had been feeling a bit tired and reluctant to do anything. On the other hand, Ashley surprisingly seemed to be glad. Because she had been with her most favourite friends who are used to visit her on a regular basis. Her friends were discussing about Ashley’s situation. They had been feeling so sad since the day they found out that Ashley got AIDS.

   They had no idea how she got it in the first place because she always hesitated to tell them the full story in case they might react in a way which could bother her. She was already hurt enough and had been having anxiety attacks so often. After she had had so many bad experiences, she decided to change her life in a better way as possible. So, she found a job alongside the cinema which she sometimes went with her friends to watch the latest movies. She tried so hard to make her life better and forget about her illness. Although she had been treated well in the hospital, she still had some doubts whether she would be totally fine or not. So, Ashley decided to change the subject while her friends were talking about her.

   They were sitting near the fireplace in a cozy room. She started to tell a story about aliens. It was altogether impossible to understand at first, but she suddenly called their attention. Everyone in the room were all ears. Probably, they found the story very odd. Ashley had always been interested in telling stories and specially found the animations about space very amusing. In her story, there was an alien family which consisted of four members and they all liked to carry on their ancestors’ traditions very much. They liked to use the same spaceships and take the old capsules. They even had a family company which included a lot of skillful analysts working so hard all time on the space programmes and preparing the related reports annually.

   Ashley’s story reminded their friends the Jetsons which had been very popular when they were kids. They liked the story so much and started to laugh when it finished. Childhood was such a lovely period in their lives. And it was lovely to remember those happy years and imagine the happenings in their minds. Thanks to the Ashley’s joyful attitude and enthusiasm, they all had so much fun and forgot about the subject they had discussed for a moment.

    A few minutes passed and Ashley saw an ambulance outside waiting for a sick lady who had always been a great neighbour to her. She was so puzzled and upset when she realized that she had passed away early in that morning. Her neighbour had always been so kind to her and tried to help her whenever she needed. She shouldn’t have died instantly. No way! As much as Ashley knew, she had no illnesses and was always content with her life. Something bad must have happened but what? She wondered so much about the truth behind her death, but decided not to dig in. Because she was afraid that the truth could destroy her and she didn’t have the courage to handle it then. Besides, she remembered her illness once more and how much afraid of the death.

   After all, it was just meaningless to maintain a life by thinking about the bad things such as diseases or bad memories all the time. She anticipated bad things coming to her life before, but it didn’t help her to make them stop. Maybe the secret was just trying to enjoy every moment as possible. In this way, we can live more happily….  (619 words)
