Photo Gallery: FunFunFun Fest Day 2
Better late than never right? Austin's FunFunFunFest weirded things up the first weekend of November, which is not an easy feat. Austin is known for being weird but has been losing it's weirdness lately, so FFF is always a welcome celebration. The lineup is always killer with curated stages: Black for punk, Blue for hip hop and electronic, Yellow for comedy, and Orange for indie and pop. This year was no exception, especially in the case of me just never leaving the Black Stage forever. Unfortunately, due to both weather and illness, I was only able to hang out on Day 2 of the festival, but that meant Archers of Loaf, American Nightmare, American Football, Gogol Bordello, and NOFX. This festival is a total blast whether you spend 3 hours or 3 days on the grounds. If you're ever in Austin the first weekend of November, swing by FFF and try something new. They fest right. Check out a few shots below and find a link to a full gallery as well. Read More →
It’s official
I am going to FunFunFun fest. Just bought my 3 day past. This is why I moved back to Austin. Music festivals.
Who else is going? You can crash at my place! I have a guest bedroom!
FUNFUNFUN RECAP
BASICALLY, I had the best time. It was refreshing to spend a few days with thousands of chill people all enjoying amazing music.
I'm going to highlight some of the sets I saw, for those of you who couldn't make it. And mostly just so I can remember foreva~
The first set we caught was SZA. And I'll be honest, I was brought to tears three times. I've gotten through the past 8 months with her music and it was amazing to experience it live. She had SUCH great energy and was such a beautiful person. I can't wait to see what she does in the music industry and hopefully I'll get to see her perform again soon.
Next, I watched Amon Amarth. Pretty good for a metal band. Great stage presence and cool clothes. I love old metal guys.
The Blood Brothers put on a great show, both sets I watched. It was AMAZING seeing a band I listened to non-stop when I was 14/15. They definitely still had it.
I caught the last few song of City and Colour's set. I wish I could've seen more. As I've always heard, Dallas did not disappoint.
We went to The Blood Brother's nite show at The Parish and saw Single Mothers and Metz. Single Mothers is one of my newest addictions as of the last few weeks and they were AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING live. Metz was awesome too. We also caught their set on Saturday at the fest.
GLASSJAW played the best set I've ever seen. I'm not sure why they got stuck with such a lousy set time, but they were incredible (as usual). Always reiterates why they're my favorite band.
The World Is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid To Die played a beautiful set. Such talented musicians, not really much else to say.
NAS KILLED IT. Seeing a rapper who I grew up listening to was so cool. He's so encouraging and it was a hella positive experience.
We watched a few songs of Modest Mouse's set before heading to Power Trip's nite show. Besides getting beer thrown in my eye during Power Trip, the rest of the night was pretty rad. I hadn't been to a hardcore show in forever and had forgotten about hardcore dancing, somehow.
Sunday started off with catching the last half of This Will Destroy You. Their music proved to be much more powerful live than in recordings, which was expected. I would kill to play keys in a similar instrumental band.
The black stage was full of some interesting acts leading up to Deafheaven. We caught Iron Reagan and Pissed Jeans. Both super rad bands with hella energy that really loved what they did. Also, hilarious.
DEAFHEAVEN WAS SPECTACULAR. It was my first time seeing them and was fucking amazing. I couldn't have imagined anything better. Powerful performance.
I then got drunk and listened to Chelsea Wolfe. Beautiful lady with a beautiful voice and kind heart.
We then turnt up to Wiz Khalifa. WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK
