Funguary Time!
This is my first time taking part, but I love the idea of character designs based on fungi! It's an exciting challenge, so I'm gonna give it a go!
This is for the first week, and is my shot at a celestial-themed fungi character. For this, I chose to combine a few different fungi for inspiration, so for this character, we have:
Lilac coral fungus for the lower half and crown.
Angel wings for the wings that kind of wrap around the character.
Turkey tail to inspire the dress/train of the character, with some color changes because I wanted to go full bioluminescent for this (even if it doesn't fully make sense, I figured celestial stuff could be glowing!).
Filoboletus manipularis for the halo; the inside of the cap on these li'l guys honestly looked perfect for this.
So, there it is! I'm very excited to get to the next themes and see what all I have to work with!
Happy Funguary!
Demonic Fungus Person! My second character for Funguary!
A little on the late side, but it's still technically in February, so I say it still counts!
Overall, I love how weird this one got. In contrast with my celestial fungus character, I really wanted this one to seem more like it was coming up from the ground, as opposed to floating over it. I messed a bit with the coloration too, for thematic purposes.
What was really fun was that the silver leaf fungus curling in looked like withered wings, which gave me a fallen angel kind of feel, and I absolutely love that.
Here are the different fungi I used (I combined some, same as with the celestial character):
Satan's bolete for the center mass/body.
Dead man's fingers for the forearms, hands, and fingers.
Silver leaf fungus for the wings.
Bleeding tooth fungus for the cap/head
So, there's entry number 2 for Funguary! Absolutely loving this challenge!
More fungi people!
Alright, so technically, this is my character for the "Edible Fungi" prompt, but that didn't feel like much of a theme to me; more of a shared element each of the fungi had, which didn't give me much in the way of artistic direction, so I chose my own character theme to go with this!
We've had these larger-than-life figures - demonic and celestial - so I figured it would be fun to go with something a little more mundane, a little humbler and subtler, so I decided on a theme of "Traveler." Just picture this li'l guy bouncing along, maybe with a portable shop, maybe with alchemical ingredients; I get merchant vibes from this one.
Also, these two absolutely travel by bouncing; the puffball mount bounces up, and then the li'l traveler guy bounces up off the puffball at the peak of the puffball's bounce, and that's just how it goes for them. Rinse and repeat.
My fungi prompt choices:
Amethyst deceiver for the head
Dotted stem bolete for the body
Inky cap mushroom for the hat
Black trumpet mushrooms for the adornments on the hat
Black velvet mushroom for the cloak
Puffball mushroom for the little mount/fungi animal companion
And that's Number 3 finished for Funguary! Yes, I know I'm late, but I am not concerned with that because I'm having so much fun(gi), and I already have ideas for the Cryptic theme!
I got my CT scan back - there is something happening upstairs!
Actually, just something from an old stump in the yard 😉
Mushrooms in the redwoods from this weekend
Second lesson today!
Thanks to Anna, I might actually do a good job!
Let's just hope I can get my make-up done so I don't look like death... >.<
It's all about fungi. I tried to make it interesting... let's hope I succeed! Today's also my first "graded" one by my university supervisor... wish me luck!
