Things grow on top of other things in the rainforest, but this giant fallen fir stood out to me. Guessing the trees it's hosting are around 50 years old? Just made me wonder how old this monster was when it toppled. The Hoh Valley has some truly ancient trees, that's for sure. Y'all should check it out.
Scenes from yesterday's wanderings 👍

Trying this one out here first, just to see how it looks on the app. Hanging moss in the Quinault Rainforest 🌲

They're just cute!
Hey, Father Time and Captain Cancer - think you two could take some time off? Getting tired of losing friends to you.
First Rich, and now Jef, who I've known since I was 13. We went through middle and high school together, both developing our musical tastes and skills along the way. Good lord, the times we spent stoned and listening to Led Zeppelin, Rush, and many, many other bands made for some indelible memories, and the jam sessions in our adult years too. Was hoping for more, you know? But I guess I'll now have to just reminisce with the common friends that remain. Unfortunately, Karl, who is in the middle of the bottom picture got taken last year, so...
But it's interesting to reflect back - seeing myself at 21, and then we over a quarter of a century later is weird. I don't appear in many pictures (was always behind the lens), so I'm glad these exist, though more for the memory of my friends and the fun times we had together. Rest in peace, Jef. The pain will no longer need to be endured, and your music will live on. ✨
Yay, spring! The yard is definitely waking up, and the lilacs smell sooo nice. 👍
Back to the Olympic Coast.
As of this reblog, less than 10 notes. Let's go for 15! Fun to look back, though.
It's trillium time in the forest!

They be tiny! Little shrooms on a stump, because that's how life rolls.
“In the first week of April the weather turned suddenly unseasonably, insistently lovely. The sky was blue, the air warm and windless, and the sun beamed on the muddy ground with all the sweet impatience of June.”

Magic days spent in Oregon. Wildflower season is here and the balsam root is so very special.
