Funk Brewing’s Silent Disco IPA (Picked up at a Weis in East Norriton, PA). A 3 of 4. A good mix of tropical and citrus hops on the nose, and much the same in the body. Some nice fruity/candy-like sweetness up front and finishes with some orange and grapefruit pith-like bitterness. Clean, dry, and bitter finish, and nicely balanced.

Funk Brewing Citrus IPA on tap at Magerks in Fort Washington, PA. A 3 of 4. As you’d expect from the name, this is bursting with bright citrus -- not just the expected orange, but lots of grapefruit and lemon and some fainter tropical notes too. Relatively simple and clean body that has more citrus-like sweetness in it, and only moderately bitter in the finish. Very drinkable.

The beer club headed out to Cellar 3 last week and I had to share one of these at the event. Great tasting going on 3 years old.

The fermentation mostly completed in the red sour ale after adding cherries for this Flanders Red (Kriek lambic) style. The plan is to age until June and keg for a celebration with friends. Just for a hoot, I stopped by the San Diego Quality Ale and Fermentation Fraternity (QUAFF) weekly meeting for a beer judge comment on my bottled, non-cherry version. It received good comments. I'm not a member so I didn't have a wide sample of judging, but I'm happy with it. I would say that the cherry aroma and flavor were slightly noticeable above the aged oaked character. I like that cherries may have slightly added tartness or dryness but next time add two 96 Oz cans to five gallons and would not need so much head space in the carboy since the secondary fermentation was not heavy. I expect good things for this in the keg in a few months.
