Numbi cafe conversation is back with #FUNK-A and this year its all about Rebirth and Rejuvenation. a Cross-Art, Cross-Cultural resetting of the Oldies, Pre and Post civil-war Somali ballads. With the Numbi Resident Artists and special guests collaborating with the latest reincarnation of Legendary Somali musical outfit DurDur Int Band. Join us is an evening blending Poetry, Song and Dance, Film, Funk and Cafe Conversation in true Numbi form. Featuring London based 11-piece Somali funk band ‘Dur Dur Int’! With Fadumina Hilowleh, Abdulahi Cujeeri, Saleh Hariiri, Ali Attore, Said Hussain, Yussuf Naji, M. Sheriff and Special Guests.

We'll kick off the evening with the cafe conversation facilitated by Numbi resident poet Elmi Ali and our lovely guest editor for our "Queerness" issue of SCARF, SA Smythe. SA Smythe is a Black genderqueer writer and editor currently living in London. SA organises in queer of colour, feminist, and abolitionist writing collectives between Berlin, the US, and Italy. Their poetry and other writing––which has been published and translated in six languages––is about familial recovery/discovery and everything in the diaspora, especially Black love, Black loss, and Black liberation.

Dur Dur Band – "Dur Dur" also means spring in Somali, it’s the name originally taken by 80’s Mogadishu funk, disco, soul band that was later disbanded in the 90’s. Dur Dur London Branch is a revival band paying homage to the original. Founded by Mr Cabdillahi Cujeeri and armed with a repertoire of funky oldies and contemporary compilations of the best in Somali funk.
Numbi FUNK-A – “Fanka", is Somali for art including poetry and song, which have no obvious distinction in Somali orature. Numbi Funk-A is an 80’s Somali Funk Revival Project In Collaboration with DurDur INT London Based Band.
