‘if things get too rough, you just call me and I’ll come.’ (Olivia @ Sylavin)
"What?" For a moment, he is guileless, the look on his face wiped clean of his usual irony, or the way he'd usually respond when a woman talks to him. He isn't used to being--looked after like this. Maybe chastised with good intentions, but this sort of concern? He can't say even his own mother had ever been a champion of showing it.
He doesn't stay that way for long. It's just a flicker, really, of golden-brown eyes widened, jaw slack for just a moment. Then an imperceptible little headshake, as he reminds himself to wake up, goddamn it, Gautier.
He paints his smile back on, an uneasy laugh that can pass for effortless to an untrained ear follows.
"You don't need to worry about me," he says, scratching the back of his head with one hand. "I've got everything under control." Sylvain might've been a decent actor, in another life; in this one, he mostly plays one role--lackadaisical fool who'll have somebody else's back; he doesn't need anyone to catch him. He doesn't have feelings, doesn't falter.
Goddess, he tries not to, at least.
