Hi, I've had this question in my mind for ages but I never get around to asking and maybe you covered this before and I couldn't find it.I just remembered today because of your Korean Mork comment.

Anyway, in your about section, you say "Will judge you for nothing... except liking MorkPi or PrapaiSky.." I agree with you about PrapaiSky but I don't get why MorkPi. I mean, I'm not a massive fan of FUTS, or of this couple. I didn't exactly love the show but there are so many shows that could elicit this strong an opinion and futs just seems, for lack of a better word, harmless. But maybe I missed something while watching it. It's been a minute since I saw it. Anyway, you obviously don't need to answer, it was really just curiosity on my part.

I feel that MorkPi is the most realistic depiction of emotional abuse that BL has ever put together and I hate them very, very much.

To summarize, Mork spends the entire show manipulating Pi, ignoring and invalidating his feelings, forcing him out, going behind his back in ways that often hurt him, actively going against every request he ever made and generally being a horrible person.

Their entire relationship is built on the fact that Pi was never actually allowed to say no because any attempts he had at saying no were summarily rejected by Mork until Pi gave up.

I find the entire things horrifying and I watched it twice to be sure I didn't misunderstand anything. The way Mork treats Pi is just... I've never gotten past it. From going to the shipper a second time after Pi specifically said he didn't want them to talk about him to Pi asking for space and Mork instantly following him home to Pi asking to be able to stay a secret in the bathroom only for Mork to step out to a crowd and go 'well, if you don't tell them we're not together I'll tell them we are' which is absolute BS... yeah, no.

Can't stand them.

Just read your description... You don't like MorkPi? As in, Fish Upon the Sky MorkPi? Nkzkzhksldh why? (btw not trying to pick up on you, genuinely curious, and if you have already answered this before free feel to ignore it yah)

Why Do I Hate MorkPi (the romanticized abusive relationship on Thai BL in All The Links I could Find.

To sum it up? MorkPi is an emotionally abusive relationship where Mork is constantly manipulating Pi who is unable to extricate himself due to low self-esteem, social pressure and being constantly gaslit by a man who claim to love him but at no point can ever show it, talk about why.

Mork talks about loving Pi but never once helps him with the bullies pushing him around constantly, never tries to build him up or support him, never tries to help him be more comfortable at school., never listens to his requests (just be my friend, keep this a secret, stay away until i come to you), in fact regularly belittles him as an anonymous user that Pi considers his only friend, constantly explains Pi's emotions to him, forces Pi out of the closet by saying 'either you tell them exactly what you want or I'll tell them the truth about us' which is LITERALLY OUTTING HIM EVEN IF HE'D DENIED IT BECAUSE EVERYONE KNEW WHAT MORK MEANT, spoke to the internet fans even after Pi made it clear he wasn't comfortable with them and literally dragged Mork in front of them to deny any relationship and spent the interview with them claiming to know Pi's feelings better than him (a theme that is the heart of the show, actually) which is something he never truly apologized or made up for because he never went online and denied it or did a public apology for that... there's so damn much.

MorkPi is genuinely the most horrifying relationship to me because it's so romanticized and played in a show that's meant to be a comedy and lighthearted and sweet.

Because I just saw it in your bio. Can I get your Top 3 reasons why MorkPi is bad? Hopefully this isn't coming off as judgey ! I'm super curious about why or why not certain 'ships are liked in shows

Okay, let's go.

Mork spends a great deal of time gaslighting and emotionally abusing Pi. He constantly tells him one thing and does another, forces him to out himself as his boyfriend directly after Pi asks him not to in the bathroom, tells him he feels one way even when Pi explains he doesn't, repeatedly contacts the shippers and even conducts an interview with them after Pi specifically had him tell them they weren't going out so apparently fuck his feelings, you know.

Mork is, apparently, incapable of giving Pi any space. Every single time Pi asks for more space or time, Mork shows up give minutes later to force his way back into his space and affections and refuses to leave unless Pi goes to extreme measures and even then half the time he doesn't actually give him space at all.

At no point in the show does Mork recognize that Pi has any agency over his own body or his own emotions or his own thoughts. Every single time, Mork is 'right' about everything, dictates to Pi how he feels, what he thinks and why. Pi is given literally no agency over himself.

So I note you say you're not keen on Fish Upon the Sky and I'm curious as to why. I know it was a bit meh and lots of people hated it but I've never got why (besides the shippers sub plot which was just dire). I liked the premise - that the hot boy actually fancied the geek first, and the geek whilst shy etc. doesn't run away from his feelings. So I think there was a lot there that could have been done better. Anyways your thoughts (or link to your thoughts at the time).

Not keen is an understatement.

Fish Upon the Sky was my least favorite BL of 2021 because it depicted a terrifyingly realistic abusive relationship in which Mork ignored every single boundary Pi tried to lay down, repeatedly gaslit him regarding his own wishes and feelings, never acknowledged Pi's feelings unless they agreed with his own and generally set himself up as what should have been the villain but instead was lauded as the romantic hero.

I like the premise as well.

But we didn't get the premise.

Because Mork literally did also run away from his feelings, hiding under a fake persona LONG after he was talking to Pi and then using his popularity to repeatedly manipulate Pi into the relationship, into his arms, into revealing their relationship, into staying in the relationship.

It's horrifying. I put Mork on a similar level to Kengkla but at least Kengkla was admitted to have done something wrong even remotely while Mork was put on a pedestal.

Anyway.

As I said so many times as it aired.

Explains your feelings to you constantly

Watches someone get bullied and just lets it happen

Only talks to someone after deciding they want romance

Feels owed a romance by someone who wanted friendship

Always takes the next step in the relationship without any waiting

Feels he's owed attention and love

Tries to act nice but never actually does nice things without an ulterior motive

Every action he takes is meant to move them to the next romantic stage regardless of actual relationship

Conclusion: Mork is a Nice Guy and I can't believe it took me this long to realize.

Ngl, i knew Bam had an ulterior motive/agenda. It is too good to be true. Knew she ain't that 'Miriam' character in TC.

Yeah, she did, but let's be honest... they still did her dirty. What a totally random and pointless conflict that they had play out over, what, 20 minutes? For basically no reason?

Why could that have been character development? Why couldn't that time have been dedicated to Pi actually overcoming his fears and now just flipping a switch in his brain that says 'oh, now it's okay!' because he got kissed?

Why could that have been Pi talking to Mork, Mork talking to Pi, listening to each other rather than forced separation and then a reunion that just continued to stomp all over Pi's boundaries and agency?

Why did the two years later little bit still involve Pi and Mork having zero communication and Mork ignoring Pi's upset?

I mean, maybe it's a seriously kinky relationship with well-drawn boundaries and a safeword... but I just don't believe they have the communication skills for that.

I just... this show.

At least it's over.

I need someone to use very small words and explain to me how it makes ANY sense whatsoever that Mork wouldn't approach Pi and talk to him.

Pi, at that point, seemed like a perfectly normal, if awkward, young man that Mork saw being pushed around by bullies claiming to be his friend.

How the fuck was that so intimidating that he decided he could never approach him? It doesn't follow at all for the supposed 'character' he's been given. He's obviously popular, very social, well-liked... maybe if Pi had been rude or had rejected his offer of help at some point, it'd make sense.

But Mork just watched him get pushed around by his bullies and then... stalked him. Silently. And then with a fake account.

I... what?

Because Pi helped him with a copy machine and then got bullied?

Like, goddamn, poor Pi. Imagine all the heartbreak that could have been prevented if Mork had just offered to help with the copying after Pi helped him.

This is the problem with Mork's lack of character. If he had any depth, if he was more than a thin sheen of love on a piece of paper, then maybe some of this would make sense. But there's nothing there but exactly what the writers need him to be in any given moment... which means the moments don't string together well.
