OUTLANDER star Sam Heughan has said he is “so proud” of Scotland’s football team and of Scottish fans.
The men’s national team secured a 1-0 victory against Haiti in their first World Cup game in 28 years at the weekend.
Speaking to the Press Association on Tuesday, Heughan said it has been great to see Scotland represented on the world stage.
“I’m so proud, actually, of the Scottish team, but also the fans,” the 46-year-old actor said.
“It looks like, from the outside, that Boston has welcomed them and they’ve brought so much joy and positivity to the tournament, which didn’t start, I think, particularly well in terms of its politics.”
He added: “But it’s great to see Scotland being represented, and I hope people fall in love with Scotland whether it’s through what I’m doing or through what those guys are doing.”
Thousands of members of the Tartan Army have flocked to the United States for the World Cup.
Others celebrated the victory at fan zones across Scotland.
Heughan said he was cheering the team on from home due to the 2am kick-off time but he is planning to watch the next game in Galloway with a large group of friends.
“I’m still tired from it because (kick-off) was at such a bad time,” he said.
“I wish I’d been there – I think everyone in Scotland wishes they were there. It looked incredible.”
Heughan also spoke to the Press Association about his upcoming projects and the end of the Outlander television series, which concluded its eighth and final season in May.
“It’s been 12 years of my life, eight seasons, 101 episodes,” Heughan said.
“I’m very grateful for what it did for me. I think Outlander gave me this opportunity to create my own brand, but also to help promote Scotland, and to sort of introduce Scotland to the rest of the world.
He added: “So many people have come because of that show and they’ve fallen in love with Scotland.”
Looking ahead, Heughan said there is “lots to look forward to”.
“I was lucky to do Macbeth at the Royal Shakespeare Company, which was a really huge achievement for me – it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
“And I am working on a book, actually. I can’t really tell you much about it at the moment but it’s super fun – it’s really creative.”
He said he has also just finished filming a TV show called Embassy for MGM Plus, which will be out at the beginning of next year.
Heughan said he is also about to do a movie.
“It’s only a small part but it’s really exciting,” he said.
Heughan also co-owns the Galloway Distillery with business partner Alex Norouzi, and he said they are busy creating new spirits and building bothies to turn in to tasting rooms among other things.
Thoughts? Opinions? Cookies?
Sooooo, I'm toying with a little something something. I get the criticism all the time of people being all "she should have just wrote a book". They mean this in kind of a snarky, I'm not giving them enough choices kind of way. Or not doing what they want. But, why not take this criticism and go, 'okay!'.
That kind of being said, here is what I am thinking. Would you read a book from 'Nights' POV in which it would be more of the 'cannon' story. I say cannon because it would change with each book. Essentially, I would write the book from the perspective of romancing one of the RO's (there would be books for each) and how that would have essentially changed the story in larger matters that I couldn't quite address because it would have made it a coding nightmare?
I have this over on discord if you wish to speak to others about it but I also thought I would put it out here. Most likely I would post it chapter by chapter on my Patreon with a full release along with art on an e-book format and physical copy format upon completion.
Hi! I was wondering if you ever considered doing something with the story of Pelops and Poseidon, like a one-off gag or something like that.
I'll surely do! Still don't know the tone, i mean, could be fluffy, could be angst, could be funny, could be all.
Poseidon's romances are a lot and they are all interesting to talk about! Also nerites, medusa...!
We all know that our Jelly here likes to mate a lot, lfmao
Hello Fir! I was wondering, do you plan to make Cantata available for free even after finishing it? Sorry if this sounds rude! Also, do you have any idea of what you intend to write next or if you even want to write something after Cantata? Like maybe a certain genre or even just that one scene you know might turn into a story of itself one day! Oh, and can't wait for chapter 5 <3
Hi anon! Not rude at all! I understand the curiosity.
I do want to monetize it in some way, though I haven’t figured out exactly what that’ll look like. One scenario I’m considering is putting the final arc behind KoFi access. This means that chapters (roughly) 11-13 will be updated in the KoFi subscription but not publicly. At least until the IF is completed, then I’ll release the full thing publicly for free. That’s just one idea of many I’m playing around with.
I already have my next IF idea lined up! 🥳 I talked about it in this ask here.
A mermaid story? 👀 can you share any details about that?
Well, it's not a Disney mermaid story, lemme tell you.
There will be four ROs, all gender-switchable. Two mermaids, one human, and one [REDACTED]. So, two individual routes and one poly between the mermaids.
But let's just say that if you're looking for a healthy, nice person to romance, don't pick the mermaids sgsfdgdgdg. The mermaids come as an item. You can't romance them individually.
And the last non-human RO may or may not be someone...interesting.
So!? I wanna share some nice news with you guys!! I have a timeline!! I timeline of all the fics I have planned. I wanted to share this because I'm feeling good after my finals!! YAY! I think I did pretty well, if I do say so myself
No context, of course! The surprise is the best part!
