Brothertiger's unique shoegaze-infused electronic anthems are not characteristic of my general music taste; however, his attention to detail and aplomb is undeniably exhilarating. I first caught the young DJ at a free show in Toledo - the shows eclectic bill also featured Michigan Bluegrass duo J.W. Carlson and Provo's rising folk-rockers Desert Noises. The show still sticks out as one of my favorites of all time, with innovators of their respective genres all performing on one stage.
Brothertiger's early work was certainly satisfying, but his 2013 LP Future Splendors saw his dreamy synth ballads fully realized. Combining 80's influences with the modern electronic precision and lush vocals of peers such as M83, the Toledo native's shimmering synth-pop has caught the ears of many. One of his standout singles, "In Mind," received a fitting visual counterpart today. The song's glitchy elements compliment it's soaring melody, and the result is pure audio-sunshine. With the warm weather coming, his character experiences a summer romance as blissful as its corresponding tune; but of course, all good things come to an end. On the positive side, Future Splendors' optimistic tone and road-trip ambition creates an endless sonic summer, regardless of temperature and romantic status.
