So got some political crap in the post today because we have an election in Australia in like a week or so so anyway its some pamphlet from one of the liberal party members and one part of it is talking about the submarine industry here (which is already a weird issue anyway seeing as they contracted a french company to come here and build our subs rather than the already existing australian companies but whatever, im not versed in shipbuilding so i have no clue) and goes on about how our new subs will be “Regionally technologically superior” But the current plan is for us to construct Subs powered by a Diesel - Electric motor, with plans to review this part way through construction before they decide whether to stick with it or go nuclear. But yeah i dunno how a non nuclear sub could be deemed technologically superior in our region when (correct me if im wrong) the largest force in our region is China, who already field nuclear subs and have more on the way.
That and the whole issues Australia had with the last lot of subs we got, has me kind of doubtful about the current plans.
