Setting: Future, right before this one
Rating: G
Description: Future fic, set right before Goes Without Saying. AKA how Kid Purge got dragged into it.
“Come with us.” The pair spoke to a young, purple-haired human male. They stood still, staring impassively at the young adult.
A curious expression met their impassive stares. The young human's gaze looked them over, noticing that they dressed in all white uniforms. Had he not been the least bit suspectful of their true identity, he would have assumed that they might be those “men in white” that the other versions of himself always joked about being carted away by.
His lips moved to a small, silent 'oh', and he turned to regard them. “And who might you guys be?”
The pair flinched, as though they were visibly hit. Perhaps they did not expect much of him, or expected him to be a far less brave human than he currently was, standing at ease, his expression betraying much of his curiosity, and little else. One of the men shuffled, leaning back to speak quietly to the other, who then nodded. As he was about to speak, the human interrupted, a hand pointing up at them.
“Ah! Are you friends of Miss QB? You see, you guys seem to have similar powers to her. After all, few can find my location right now, unless they already knew me, and well, I don't know anyone else but her to enter a rift quite like you two have.”
They exchanged looks.
“Yes... We are acquaintances of this QB you know. We would like you to come with us.” A pause, debating on how much more to share to the human. Ah, he would be dead soon. “You see, she has been longing to meet with you again, and we've set up the perfect opportunity for it.”
They waited, watching the human with intense interest. He seemed to screw up his face, thinking about it. Maybe it was too obvious that it was a trap? They themselves didn't know the extent of QB's relationship with this “Kid Purge”, but no doubt they could easily come up with an excuse to satisfy his disbelief.
It was odd, indeed, but Kid Purge, no longer a kid, but a full grown Purge, a full-fledged Alpha, watcher of space and time, and the things that lay between. He knew it well to be a trap. After all, QB would have just found him herself if she wanted so badly to talk to him. Hell, he even knew who these people were. She didn't share much, but she did warn him in advance. Not only that, but his own powers had shown him this event unfolding before, his own curiosity at when he would meet with QB again showing him what would happen. Why it needed to happen, he still didn't quite understand, but from what he understood of QB's world, not much of them made sense either. Senseless violence, and something about living so long meant you had genetics worth passing on. Like some sort of Darwinistic survival of the fittest, where only those who were seen as fit were allowed to procreate. It just didn't make sense to him, but it did to QB, and, well, he did kind of want to see what his younger siblings would be like...
He soon realized that his own thoughts had been roving for too long, because suddenly those people had abandoned their distance from him, in mid-pounce. He easily could have stopped time and fended them off, but he knew that it wouldn't end well for QB if he did. She always told him to never share his true powers and abilities with anyone else, especially those from her world. He let out a sigh, and a small, bittersweet smile crossed his face.
He would see his mommy soon enough, if only for a little bit.
No, that's not quite right. The bed has a form in it. It has always had this form in it. Yet loneliness creeps in.
Loneliness? Is that what it is? The form sits up and stares. Blankets fall from the being in it, pale blue eyes looking at the space beside it. Empty. It wasn't always like this. Wasn't always so difficult to sleep alone.
A small groan of frustration escapes from thin lips. A hand goes up to press against the female's head. She bares her teeth, frustration growing. Why? Why did she miss him so much? He, the damned child who had forsaken all the kindness she had shown him! Why? Why was it so lonely without him beside her?
It had been years since she shared the bed with him, him having outgrown it despite the longing and emotional damage he still showed underneath all the healing that had taken place in her care.
Why was it so frustrating, so incapable to sleep as she had for the several years before, the years spent with him smiling up at her, snuggling closer and burying his head into her. The nights when the sound of his breathing changed ever so slightly, and she knew that a nightmare was oncoming. That he woke up confused, and mumbled a sleepy thank you when he saw her face.
What was it about the loss of his presence that bugged her so much? She had spent years, decades, centuries of his pitiful human time alone! He had been with her for only a fraction of a year for her world. A fraction of a year.
Stars. Was she really so weak, that even now she could find the inklings of regret? But no, he. He was the reason why he wasn't here anymore. He used her no less than she did him. He made her do his dirty work. Kill the people who were after him. Manipulated her into thinking that she was protecting him, when all she was doing was pawnwork.
Fingers grip tightly the sheet, her hand presses harder onto her forehead. Nails begin to scrape into her skin, but she didn't notice. Her focus was on the conflicting emotions within her. Son, or not? If so, then the lack of him was her fault, and missing him was normal. Maybe not for her people, but it was considered normal to most species. But if not...
“Haha.... I can't believe I let a human do so much.” Oh, the irony. She, who considered herself to be ironwilled, to be incapable of being swayed by her emotions, or of ever having them out of her control. Yet, isn't that what happened? She yelled, she screamed, she was on the brink of killing him when she had found out. And now she missed him. The place felt so empty. Devoid of purpose, of meaning. Of an existence that meant something. What was her existence like before? Wasn't it the same, the very same, when he wasn't here? There was no knowing what she could do now. She could kill him, of course, but he had already escaped her. He knew how she fought, knew her weaknesses, openings. He was more powerful than her. Always was, really. He just lacked the training, which she gave to him. The only advantage he didn't have over her was the thought that she was out to attack him, to kill him. If she could lure him into the open, under the pretense of an apology...
She clutched the sheets tighter. No. She wasn't ready to do that. She couldn't murder someone who had given her so much, even if it was all fake.
Letting out a frustrated scream, QB threw the sheets from her, and stood up. Son or not, it didn't change the fact that she missed him. She missed the stars damned runt who would come crying to her over the smallest thing, over everything, begged her not to kill him, to kill others, to be good, to obey human morality, to play with him, spend time with him, look at his drawings, drawings of her, of him, of family, of people and places he loved and things he missed and wanted back. There was so much of him that she missed, so much of her life that he filled up that she never knew was empty.
QB slumped against the side of her bed, letting fall tears that she didn't know she had. From another world, millions and millions of lightyears away from her, watched the young man she had raised, a hand lifted up helplessly as he longed so dearly to love her back.
waaaugh so I applied to a thing today (affordable housing internship is san mateo!) and was feeling pretty good about it, and when I went to a meeting with our club on campus I got a call from the yolo county people saying that they didn't accept me for the internship position there (I mean obviously lolol) but they thought I was a good applicant and would I be interested in any openings they have in the near future? and I was like waaaah of course!! like they called me pretty late but if they even put in effort to say they liked me and to offer future opportunities that's pretty good right? @~@ also they were like yeah I know you know 2 of the people there too lolol (I only know one guy for sure, so I wonder who the other person is o___O) but if they get stuff for the summer I am completely down for that, it'll be perfect timing too since I'll be phasing out of current job
yaaay, future things!! but now I have to study for law midterm :/

Description: Not too long after Kid Purge and QB become a family once more, he is found to be longing for the possession of a cat like Fuzzymittens again. Or something. Summaries aren't my thing.
“You still miss him a lot, don't you?” The blonde woman in the grey cloak had watched her son stare at the various pets in the Pet Shop inside the Purge Mall, a mixture of wistfulness and pain on his face. She hadn't been back in his life for long, even by human standards, but she had thought that perhaps by the time June was over for them, he might have shown some improvements. Instead, he continued to sigh, always feeling a bit lost whenever he put down another animal that he had held for a moment. It pained her, as she felt responsible for his pain, knew that she was responsible, and yet had nothing but her companionship to offer to make it better. And that still didn't stop his longing stare at the pet store whenever they had passed it by.
He turned to face his adoptive mother, looking sheepish. “...Well yeah. He was my first pet, and sometimes my only companion for a long time, Mom. I'm glad that you're back, but I still miss him.” He hadn't finished speaking before he found himself being hugged by his mother, his head resting on her shoulder as she tried to offer what solace she could.
“You know that you don't have to get another one, right?”
“I know. But I miss having a pet.”
The woman sighed, and let go of him. “There are my spiders...”
“I was thinking something much more cuddly.”
“My spiders are cuddly! Pinky enjoyed them very much; rather, that seems to be a trait of many of the Morolian spiders.”
“A more normal pet.” He paused, as a thought occurred to him. “I could make a robot version of Fuzzymittens!”
His mother shook her head.
“No no, you don't understand! Alpha and I worked together on making a robodog, I'm sure we could make a cat too! And then he would never die!”
“Sweetheart... I really think you ought to spend some time to moving on first before you commit to that. To really examine your motives for such a thing. I told you before-- wanting a replacement for him isn't going to get rid of the hurt. It's only going to delay it.”
He nodded. “You're right, Mom. But I still want to make my own robopet.” At this, his mother shrugged her shoulders, as if to say that it was ultimately his decision.

Notes: ....I have no words for what happened, this was the result of thinking about future interests. You can check the tags for the full story. Timeline wise, this is sometime after QB returns and reunites with Kid Purge.
“You've sunk really low, haven't you?” The speaker was none other than Alpha's former friend, the corrupted Alpha that came before him. He saw him sitting in a chair, one leg propped up against his knee. He had an elbow resting on an arm of the chair, and his head was resting against his knuckles.
Alpha narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms. His former friend saw it as an invitation to continue.
“Sleeping with that woman, I mean.”
Alpha scoffed, and shook his head. Was that all that he was being bothered about? “My personal life stopped being your business when you turned against us all.”
The corrupted one laughed. “I was always against you; you just never realized it until the very end, Cop. So tell me, what do you think you can gain from it? Did her lie really fool you?”
The seed of doubt was quickly sown.
“....It wasn't a lie.”
“No? Are you sure? Don't you think it's a little odd that she comes back from who-knows-where, claiming that she can have kids now? How many species do you know that can suddenly have children at such a late age in their life?”
Alpha was silent. It did seem a little odd, he would have admitted, had the person he was talking to wasn't a lying, manipulative bastard himself. ...Still, the woman did have a history of lying. She was clever, manipulating, and when it came to interacting with him, there were few things she had stated clear interest in.
“And even if she wasn't lying, do you really think that having children with her is such a smart idea? They'll have her genes. She'll make sure of it.”
“That's enough.”
“She's just using you, old friend. She just needs some poor, pathetic, lonely fool to help her out, and you're the biggest fool out there. I would know-- I personally picked you for that particular reason. Your naivety.”
Alpha now glared at his conversation partner. “Get out. I don't know how you're here but I want you out.”
“Huh. I never knew how much you actually wanted kids.”
“There's a lot of things about me that you never really wanted to know. Now get out and leave me alone!”
“She's not going to stick around for you to see them. You'll never even get to know what they'll look like. She'll leave you, once she's got what she wanted. That's what she's done to so many other guys. What makes you so different, hmm?”
“I SAID GET OUT!”
Alpha sat up in bed, sweat on his skin and his breathing rapid. He put his hands on his knees and rested his forehead against them. His blood was throbbing in his head, and he had to consciously think to slow down his heaving chest. On the bed beside him, he could hear the woman stir.
“What's wrong, Alpha?”
He shook his head, trying to clear away the image of his former friend laughing at him. That bastard's stuck in a black hole and there's no way he could have known.
“Nothing. It was just a nightmare.”
“Oh stars.” He could hear her head fall back onto the pillows. “That's good,” she said with all the empathy that could be spared of one who had absolutely no cares for the world.
Alpha lifted his head up and looked at her. “No, it's not.”
She sighed, and pulled herself up to sit next to him. As she spoke, she brushed her blonde hair away from her face. “Okay, fine, it's not. Did you want to tell me about it?”
“He was in my dreams.”
“Okay... And? If it was just a nightmare, then it means nothing. You've both confirmed that he's in a black hole, correct?”
Alpha nodded. “Yes, but, QB, you've got to understand something here. I haven't had a dream like that in a very long time. It was new. Somehow he found out about this.”
She shook her head, more in skepticism than anything else. “Alpha, you and I both know that that's not possible. Maybe it's just your own guilt taking form through him in your dreams.”
“He's still fucking with me, QB. I don't know how, but he is. There's no way in hell I would have had a dream like that. I can still hear him laughing, like he's right here in my head.”
It was plain to her that he was already starting to freak out. His eyes had widened when he spoke, and his manner of speaking had gone from calm to paranoia. The sweat on his chest had nothing to do with the temperature in the room. As she continued to watch him speak, he began to shake. He was looking away from her, with his head between his hands now, palms pressed against his temples. His eyes saw far off, as if he was still seeing his dream. So QB did the first thing that came to her mind. She put both of her hands on his cheeks, and gently turned his head so that he could see her.
“Alpha,” she said, her voice calm but in control. “Look at me.” She saw his eyes dart around, as if it was fighting the command. Eventually, she saw them settle on her, and the fearful look began to ease. His eyes stared down, but slowly they came up to rest on her own.
“Do you see me? Do you see my lips move as I speak?” She felt him nod in her hands. “Good. Listen to me, Alpha. It was just a dream. He's not here. He's not fucking with you. He has no way to know what any of us are doing unless someone told him, and there's no one to tell him but us. Do you understand?”
He nodded, and she could see that she had said the right things to calm him. She gave him a smile, and leaned in to kiss him. He repositioned himself so that he could face her more comfortably. His arms wrapped around her body, keeping her close once the kiss was broken. QB rested her forehead against his, the smile on her face genuine. Alpha, on the other hand, now felt the questions raised in the dream as if they were his own, and it was plain that now, instead of fear, Alpha felt apprehension and a tiny bit of guilt.
“QB... You haven't lied to me since you returned, have you?”
She lifted her head and leaned back a little so that she could examine his face. “No, Alpha, I haven't. I see no reason to need to. Why?”
“So you didn't lie to me when you said that you could have children now? It wasn't just an excuse to have sex with me?”
She's confused by the line of questioning. “No... I would have fed you a much better lie if I only wanted sex from you.” Her fingers caress the back of his neck. “Why are you asking me these things now?”
“...Because of my dream. He said that you were lying about your ability to conceive and that you would leave with them if it was true.”
The confused look on her face disappears, replaced by one of relief. She shakes her head at him, her fingers pausing briefly in their work. “You have nothing to fear from anything that dream told you. Ignore it. I know well enough that you would desire to raise any child that you create; given your abilities, I would be hard pressed to find a way to hide myself and it from you.”
He smiled at her, comforted by her words. This time it's he who kisses her, his hands pulling her head towards him, fingers locking into her hair as she warmly receives his lips.
“Thank you, QB,” he says as he lays down again.
She begins to settle down next to him. “Is there anything else that you wish to ask?”
He lifts the sheet so that it's over them once more. QB props herself up on her hands so that she can look him in the eyes should there be anymore questions.
“Just one more thing.”
“Hmm?”
“Was I really that good?”
Her smile is wide; she laughs, and leans down towards him. The conversation is paused; the sound of her lips on his is all that can be heard for a moment. When she parts, she rests her head on his chest, tucking one arm against his side and placing the other across his stomach. His arm wraps around her back, pulling up the sheet and then draping around her.
*numbered this because while there have been like several others thrown around this is the only one we've actually played out so far? [plus I'll probably write something that's more emotional and stuff later/eventually]
anyways just some future kid purge and future qb reunion stuff and oh stars qb wants to make up for lost time so badly she has mommy feels ok and wants to hug and hold her bby and tell her that she loves him and is sorry and stuff
also unedited/uncropped because effort
[12:53:15 AM] Purge: he's going to be gone before you know it, qb
[12:53:20 AM] Sarah: HEHHHHEHHHEHHEH
[12:53:38 AM] Sarah: she won't get to see him for such a long time. All those human years will feel so muchlonger without him~~~~
[12:54:40 AM] Sarah: even then she's still gonna need like a year of her time and some days AFTER the events of Goes Without Saying before she can see him again and apologize and reunions.
[12:55:53 AM] Purge: And then, then.... thennnnn
"It's nice to be able to see you again, mom."
[12:56:37 AM] Sarah: ;u;
She doesn't even say anything in response, just goes over to him and hugs him.
[12:57:15 AM] Purge: "You've missed so much, let's go to the mall and I can explain it all to you."
Future Alpha would also be happy to see her.
[12:58:39 AM | Edited 12:58:51 AM] Sarah: She needs to hold him for a moment more, but she's nodding her head. "Sure..." There's quick pause, then, "I'm so sorry sweetheart. For what I did. For the fight."
oh?
[12:59:15 AM] Purge: "It's OK. I told you, I understand."
Yeah, partially in that "it's nice to see you" and partially in that "now the kid will stop moping around"
[1:00:34 AM] Sarah: She still doesn't quite believe that completely, and because it still doesn't feel okay, but she lets him go. "I've missed you so much"
she's having mommy feels ok
snerks haha yeah. alpha probably stuck around to keep the kid company a bit huh?
[1:02:15 AM] Purge: "I missed you too, but I came to visit a lot!"
Yep. He needed company too after douchebagel's final curtain call.
[1:03:42 AM] Sarah: She blinks, giving him a confused look. "You... visited...?" She would have /recalled/ that, especially after they had broke the fake one and triggered the real ones.
bbies.
[1:04:36 AM] Purge: "Yeah, but I stopped time... so you couldn't really tell..."
Alpha feels closure, yet empty at the same time
[1:07:07 AM] Sarah: "I.... see... I'm so sorry, sweetheart, that you had to resort to that. I can only imagine..." Which is, really, all she can do. And even her imagination wouldn't be so strong as to generate the sympathy she knows that he'd need.
"I mean, I understand that that... wouldn't be very satisfying for you."
='c alphabby
[1:07:57 AM] Purge: "Just... promise me that you won't ever go back to them again... please."
[1:08:33 AM] Sarah: "I can't think of a reason why I would need to. If I could get what I needed without them, I would have..."
[1:09:32 AM] Purge: "....?"
[1:10:06 AM] Sarah: "I still need to explain to you why I had to, don't I...?"
[1:10:24 AM] Purge: "Yeah..."
[1:14:42 AM | Edited 1:14:54 AM] Sarah: "In our society, when our people reach a certain age, we're able to be considered fit for procreation. It's a matter of pride, being able to reproduce. Even if family's not a strong tie, it's still a sign that one's fit enough to make it so far that they've got genetics worth passing on. And in order to be able to have my own children, I had to go back. We're the only galaxy that we know of with our race and society, so there is no other place that I could go for the surgery. So now, if I wanted, I could have more children. And hopefully treat them better than I treated you if and when I do."
[1:15:43 AM] Purge: "S-So I'll have sisters and brothers then?"
[1:16:45 AM] Sarah: She laughed. "Maybe. I have to be more thoughtful of who I sleep with now, but maybe someday."
[1:23:21 AM] Sarah: "Now, you said that you wanted to explain some things to me at the mall...?"
[1:26:51 AM] Purge: "...Yeah. Some of them are sad... but you'll listen, right?"
[1:27:40 AM] Sarah: She clasps his hand, her longing to give him affection and to make up for lost time strong. "Of course, sweetheart. I don't plan to go anywhere anymore."
[1:29:43 AM] Purge: "Good, then let's go!"
[1:30:13 AM] Sarah: And they arrive at the mall.
which
who knows how different it'll look after 14,000 human years.
[1:30:28 AM] Purge: Very different
[1:31:37 AM] Sarah: "Heh... It's not too surprising that it's so different now. Humans are always wanting to make change due to their short lives. Still, I... wasn't sure what to expect."
[1:32:07 AM] Purge: "Let's sit down at a table, OK? We might find Alpha that way too!"
[1:32:33 AM] Sarah: "He's still alive?" she asks him, genuinely surprised.
[1:33:25 AM] Purge: "Yeah... two things aren't though..."
[1:34:27 AM | Edited 1:34:33 AM] Sarah: "The first Purge I met?" He had hinted vaguely at it before her fake memory had been secured.
[1:37:39 AM] Purge: "Yeah... He was tortured brutally one last time by him... all his energy was taken and his heart was critically failing.
So... I made a paradise for him. For all of them. It doesn't have to be an illusion anymore."
(the other death is going to make the kid more emotional.)
[1:42:06 AM] Sarah: [oh no!!! its ok kid momma qb will hug you lots]
"I.... see..." It seemed that she had remained altogether indifferent to him at the end. "That was very sweet of you."
Then...
"....He became active again...?!"
[since woops he was gonna be put to sleep or left in a black hole I don't remember which wound up being true for kid @ midteens.]
[1:44:09 AM] Purge: "It was before he was sent there. I couldn't stop him though... Anyways, that's getting off topic.
The other death..." his voice was cracking slightly "was Fuzzymittens."
[1:47:01 AM] Sarah: QB wrapped her arms around him. Though she didn't feel any loss for it --indeed, she was more moved by being told that Purge had died than that an ordinary cat had died--, she saw how much it had hurt her son.
"You need not worry about his condition anymore, sweetheart." It was about the most comforting thought she could offer that felt genuine.
[1:48:57 AM] Purge: He had burst into tears now. clinging onto her. "I tried so hard to keep him alive, I really did! But... I couldn't do anything!"
[1:51:43 AM] Sarah: She held him tighter, letting him cry. QB stroked his back.
"Shhh.... shh... It's okay. It's okay... He would have needed to pass sometime, sweetheart. You know that, don't you?"
aw. I imagine alpha like trying to help the kid move on/probably telling him that he'd have to let the cat die sometime, that it wasn't natural/normal/good for an ordinary cat to live so long.
[1:52:31 AM] Purge: "B...But I didn't know that I was hurting him for keeping him alive so long! I would never want him to suffer..."
[1:54:07 AM] Sarah: "I know you wouldn't. But you had no way of knowing what he wanted, did you?"
[1:55:09 AM] Purge: "N...No..."
[1:57:00 AM] Sarah: She kissed the side of his head, stopping the calm stroking to hug him tighter. "Then please don't feel bad. He isn't suffering anymore, is he? He's gone. He's no longer your responsibility. You can let go now, okay?"
[1:58:00 AM] Purge: "...." he looked up at her, sadly nodding.
[2:00:23 AM] Sarah: QB let go of him, placing her hands on his face and wiping away his tears with her thumbs.
"It's okay sweetheart. I'm here now, ok?"
she's completely of the belief that he only kept the cat alive for so long because he was lonely/missing her and it was one of the few living things he had from time spent with her.
[2:01:27 AM] Purge: "OK... Please dont leave me again!"
Also when that didn't work and alpha was busy, he visited Purge in Paradise
imeanwhat
[2:02:28 AM] Sarah: "I won't, I promise!" She holds up her pinky.
I bet he made her do pinky promises or try to before ok
fhjfdhes bby.
[2:04:41 AM] Purge: A smile appeared on his face as he took the pinky with his own. (Actually he tried once. She said no.)
"I brought you your robots, since you seemed to be lonely!"
[2:06:50 AM] Sarah: [yeah I think I remember that happening when they first met...? or in that first month?]
"I love you so much, sweetheart. I don't mean that lightly, at all. I don't want to see you sad because of me anymore." And she shook on it.
pffbt.
[2:07:57 AM] Purge: "I love you too, mom!" he said, his smile widening.
watching over future qb and visiting future qb during the times they had been fighting. and freezing time to just talk to her and let her know what's happened and gone on and then kiss her cheek and disappear and unfreeze time and all that qb has as an indicator of anything having happened is some sensation where the kid kissed her, and she'd just think it was a strange wind or a strand of hair.
