I'm always thinking about the future. The future in light of the present. This is one thing I've noticed many INFJs have in common. This idea of thinking about the future to define the actions to take in the present is what makes INFJs doers as well as dreamers. With the ability to imagine a future of possibilities allows the INFJ to take action in the present toward the future they envision. But with every pro, there is a con. Although this can be a gift, it can also be a curse. Due to being an introvert, INFJs don't care to gain approval from others especially if they aren't close to them. This isn't the problem though, the problem is the logic that comes with this. INFJs don't care for insignificant things that won't contribute to their future that they see. But because the future has infinite possibilities and the INFJ focuses on one big idea of their own future, it can stop them from living in the moment. A curse and a gift. In order to get things done, INFJs find purpose for what they do by looking towards their possible future they want. This excludes the idea of "going with the flow" to an extent. It doesn't exclude the idea all together, it just becomes very hard to grasp for an INFJ and when they finally do, it becomes another contradiction among the many that make up an INFJ. What does this look like? Well, small talk, for starters, is not something many INFJs enjoy. In fact, they prefer depth and intense meaning due to their extensive overthinking habits (which can be awe-inspiring to many when they have an answer for almost any philosophical question or just frustrating for the INFJ cuz this causes frequent headaches). Because they care so much about their time and what they are doing with it they think things out, and that means small talk is first to go. Another common habit caused by this struggle is when an INFJ can't let go of a thought or feeling. Literally, cannot let it go. At all. Not even kidding. Distracting an INFJ only happens if an INFJ consciously lets it happen. Otherwise, thoughts always bubble in their head and if one of these thoughts is a striking one, like it feels like an epiphany, this creates even more thoughts linked to it! So let's look at this from an outside the INFJs mind, let's say they're with a few friends and everyone is watching a show and talking and laughing. If the INFJ had a thought caught in their head they would look like they were bored, or frustrated, or even relaxed (depending on the thought) but Not laughing or smiling or giving eye contact to others. They'd b staring at the screen, or at least they LOOK like they are. In fact, they would be there, but it would feel like they weren't there. This is very common amongst INFJs until they train themselves to ignore these thoughts or convince themselves to interact more. Whether or not this IS a gift or a flaw is up to the INFJ and how this contributes to the future they wish to have.
