there are so many wonderfull dog breeds out there that I’m always bouncing from one to another, trying to decide what breed would be right for me as my next dog. of course I’m taking into account my lifestyle and tying to find a dog to match, but recently I’ve found myself wanting a dog that will motivate me to change my lifestyle and become more active and outgoing.
I have a list of breeds that I would love to have that would fit with my current, more sedentary/homebody lifestyle; whippet, silken windhound, cardigan welsh corgi, and smooth collie are all on that list.
but although I enjoy a quiet life, I love to play with and train dogs, go on adventures, and I would love to get into dog sports. the trouble is, I find it very hard to motivate myself to interact with people and to leave my comfort zone in order to go on adventures and try new things. I’m constantly talking myself out of breeds I would really like to have because I worry that I would never be able to meet the dog’s needs, but maybe I’m wrong. I’m fully capable of altering my lifestyle, I just lack the motivation. which is why I’m contemplating getting a higher intensity/energy/drive/whatever breed that would force me to expand my comfort zone and adopt a healthier, more active lifestyle.
on this list of breeds I would love to have that are more active are working/field cocker spaniels, australian cattle dogs, australian shepherds, and possibly a springer spaniel.
I’m still not sure if looking into these more active breeds is a good idea or not, but I do know I want a dog that will motivate me, so there’s a good chance I may end up with a challenge for my next dog, and hopefully it will be the push I need to become more active and involved.
