Neat and atmospheric groan-pop from an Island just-off Canada; Fog Lake’s latest offering ‘Victoria Park’ is whispering across the Atlantic this June via Orchid Tapes. The wonderful homies that brought you Alex G, Foxes in Fiction and R.L.Kelly are unleashing their latest bedroom wonder. Fog Lake, like Alex G and Elvis Depressedly/Coma Cinema, cultivates more than a “one man band” feel to his otherwise personal and singular fuzz-pop songs. Lo-fi recordings safe-guard authenticity, as you prick you ears to try and catch the phrases and lines uttered. You realise, it is futile. You become charmed and engrossed whether you catch the lyrics on a first listen or a forth, ‘Bury My Dead Horses’ is a song that makes you feel something. Plunging snare sounds and crash course reverb, wallpaper over the sound of someone speaking to you extremely directly. This roughness makes Fog Lake shy but also piercing. He left me like his dead horses, buried in his song.
