Sorry Virge, it was just an idea. Does cutting your hair have some particular meaning in drow culture?
(Virgil sighs,)
Virgil: ...Sorry. But, yes, hair is super important to us. Elves in general, really.
Virgil: The length and health of your hair is sort-of a badge of status and beauty, I guess? How you decorate and wear it tells more about your personality and history than anything else you could wear or do, and we have little tells based around that to communicate certain messages to other elves. Certain braids will tell you how many battles a person has faced, or how many allies they have in the area, or whether or not they’re looking for a partner.
Virgil: And it’s like...the longer it is, the longer you’ve survived, and the more respect you deserve for doing so. And on a more religious sort of note, someone’s hair also holds a spiritual connection to the earth, our sisters, and to their ancestors, and to cut it off would be severing your connection to all three.
Virgil: We don’t cut someone’s hair unless they’ve committed some sort of serious capital crime, and threatening to cut someone’s hair is a massive insult... On the flip side, letting someone else braid or style your hair is a really big deal.
