The FW 190 was magnificent at retaining energy and best utilized the “boom and zoom” tactic in which the pilot would pounce on its prey from a high altitude then quickly pull away. However, at low altitudes it lost its speed and maneuverability, as seen above, resulting in the Luftwaffe pilot’s decision to abandon his aircraft.
