So, we all know the "I Want" song type – but what about the "I Wanted" song? A song where a character bitterly reflects on their former dreams, and they chastise themself for having been naive enough to believe they'd come true?

For instance:

No Good Deed from Wicked

Pretty Funny from Dogfight

There's a Fine, Fine Line from Avenue Q

Flowers from Hadestown

What do y'all think?

EDIT: Just noticed that these are all sung by female characters. Anyone got any examples for a male character?
