Essay research

So for the essay we had to do a 2000 word write up on which art period we felt had the most impact on video games. After revisiting each art period I was split between the Dutch Golden age and Romanticism, I decided on Romanticism as I felt it provided me with much more material to research and work with. After making this decision I went back to my group presentation on Romanticism and had a look over what areas I had covered then and what other people found. I decide to then focus my essay mainly around the major themes of romanticism and how they are found within the video game industry and how they have effected the design of video games.

To start the essay I looked into the artists and writers of the Romanticism art period. I discovered a wide range of people and felt it was best to focus on just a select few and then a range of their own work. I the artist I mainly looked at where; J M W Turner, William Blake and John Martin. I looked into their work and compared it to the major themes of romanticism and how they portrayed them. I then went onto researching what games could be seen to make use of these same themes. I picked a range of games and researched a range of sources. After then making links between each theme and some games I decided on the conclusion that Romanticism played a large part in the video game industry. I then took all this information and wrote it up into my 2000 word essay.
