Short summary/description: Officially, Commander Thorn dies on Scipio, and Commander Thire receives a transmission describing the events of his death. Unofficially, Thorn stares at the medbay ceiling trying to process the news, knowing that his brother has been killed in his stead. A role reversal AU that doesn’t exactly fix things, but breaks them differently. Thorn lives, but Thire dies in his stead and now everyone still alive has to deal with the fallout.
Snippet:
The assassin stumbled away from them. Ari readied his gun to take a shot, but Esri put a hand in front of Ari. There was something wrong with her. Her throat hadn’t been slashed as evidenced by the lack of blood spurting from her neck, and yet her movements were reminiscent of death throes. She fell to her knees, and as she took her helmet off she fully collapsed. In the same moment, Esri was hit by a wave of psychic energy, and from Ari’s facial expression he was too. She wasn’t dead, even though she wore the face of a dead woman.
Thora’s red hair spilled onto the ground like a small pool of blood around her head. Esri sent a wave of spores to her, willing them to move faster than Pog and Shade could. He didn’t need Pog and Shade to breathe in poison. He didn’t need Thora to die for real, whether from poison or from a wound she should have been able to prevent.
