Promo Monday?
Hi! Man. How do I interact with events on tumblr? Last time I was on tumblr, I did meta blogging only so this is new but 😂 The rules said I could promote myself and other things, so I guess I’ll promote some interesting SamBucky stories I love as well as my own thing.
So, in no particular order, here are SOME FIC RECS:
1) it’s in the weight he does not carry by Someone_aka_Me (T, 9,957) - “Wherein Bucky is jealous of himself, the other Bucky is very confused, and Sam is frequently exasperated. Featuring time travel, kidnappings, and way too much discussion of destiny, love, and the self.”
I just find the idea of Bucky becoming insecure and dealing with his past, less fucked up self to be a fascinating story and the podfic version read by Akaihyou is amazing.
2) It’s Always Bucky’s Fault Series by LeMera (Agha) (E, 40,634):
Did you see it? - “In which there's supposedly a viral video of the Winter Soldier on his knees sucking off Captain America. Everything is, like always, completely Bucky's fault.”
Did you hear about the boyfriend? - “After a certain video goes viral, Sam and Bucky have to pretend to be in a committed relationship. Of course, Bucky has to take it a bit too far.”
Did you enjoy the meal? - “Having to lie to the world about being in a relationship with Bucky was one thing, but having to lie to his family was another. Sam didn't know how this was going to work, but Bucky seemed to know exactly what to do. In fact, he was just a little bit too good at it.”
Do you smell trouble? - “Sam and Bucky are making this whole fake-relationship, secretly fuck-buddies thing work. The problem is, it's working a bit too well, and now Sam might be in trouble.”
Do you feel it too? - “Ever since Sam and Bucky started this whole fake-dating, fuckbuddies thing, his life has been a mess. It gets even messier when Sam realises he might want more out of the relationship than Bucky does. Best to just end things before he gets his heart broken or things go way too far. Right?”
Did you see it? - Epilogue - “In which there's a viral video of Captain America getting on his knees for the Winter Soldier. But not for the same reason as last time. This time it's actually Sam's fault.”
It’s just a really fun and well-crafted series about a blowjob tape going viral and a fake relationship becoming a real one lol
3) baby we’ll be fine by napricot (T, 2,776) - “ 'Just to clarify, when you say vampires, you mean literal, actual vampires. Not, like, aliens that act like vampires,’ asked Bucky slowly.
'They’re literal, actual vampires, yes,’ said Blade, a combination of words that Sam had never wanted to hear outside of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 'And I’ve been fighting them since they killed my mom.’
Sam couldn’t see his eyes, but Blade’s whole face went tense and his next words came like he was forcing them out.
'l could really use some superhero backup.’
This, Sam reminded himself, was his life now. Being Cap. Living with Bucky. Knowing about...vampires. He took a deep breath in, let it out slow. Vampires are real he tried, testing it out. It didn’t feel great.
Sam discovers he's got limits on this superhero bullshit. Bucky sympathizes.”
This is one of the funniest fics out there, hands down. I just love it so much, and I’m sure everyone knows by now how good napricot is in creating fun and interesting stories. There’s also a wonderful podfic version read by seleneaurora.
4) Secret Re(Hate)tionship by Meatball42 (M, 5,770) - “ ‘I’m not going to pretend to date the guy just so the American public will forget that he’s the most prolific assassin of the twentieth century!’
'Sam,' Steve chastised him. ‘You know he didn’t have a choice in doing those things—’
And yeah, Sam had heard this speech a few dozen times. Honestly, the murderbot thing had nothing to do with him and Barnes not getting along. He just plain didn’t like the dude.
But he did care about Steve.”
I don’t know why I like stories about Bucky and Sam falling into fake relationships and just discovering they actually love each other, but I guess that’s a thing I like? 😂 there’s also a fantastic podfic version of this by sophinisba
5) warm blood (feels good I can’t control it anymore) by notcaycepollard (E, 4,492) - “Sam's just chilling watching TV one evening when Bucky comes in and stares at him silently for a minute or two before sitting down on the couch. He's pretty close to Sam.
Okay, he's really close to Sam. Like, Sam would be using the word 'cuddling' if it wasn't so bizarre.
'What,' he says, carefully not looking at Bucky, and Bucky huffs a sigh.
'Steve's not here,’ he says as if it's obvious. ‘Don't make it weird. Just- shut up.’ ”
Well, everyone knows notcaycepollard by now, but this is probably my favorite thing by them. It’s just such a sweet and interesting take on Bucky being cold due to the serum. I’m a fan of it haha there’s also a wondrous podfic version by quietnight.
6) Looking For Knives (I Was Looking For You) by downjune (M, 3,427) - “Bucky didn’t have a gun to return fire. He didn’t even have pants.”
This one’s just such a great friends to lovers story about Sam’s apartment getting attacked with a nice hint of humor and a blubbery mess of a Bucky.
7) I’ll explain everything to the geese by napricot (E, 50,949) - “Bucky is so competent that it hurts my feelings is not a rational complaint to have about a person, and yet, after a year of being Captain America and partnering up with Bucky for the new and improved, post-Blip Avengers, that’s kinda how Sam’s feeling.
It’s not great. It maybe leads to Sam making some rash, ill-advised decisions like claiming he has a previously undisclosed superpower, and then getting caught in a web of lies when he ends up actually developing that surprisingly inconvenient superpower. Talking to birds had seemed like a harmless superpower, but it turns out that birds have a lot of opinions, and they don’t hesitate to tell Sam about them, especially when it comes to his supposedly subpar courting skills. Which is ridiculous, because Sam isn’t courting Bucky. Right?”
This is one of the funniest, most awkward, wonderful SamBucky fics you’ll ever see and I think the hook of it is not only Sam trying so hard to not be mad at Bucky being good at things or Bucky trying his best to woo Sam without Sam getting that Bucky’s wooing him, but the birds. The fucking birds. There should be more bird telepathy fics 😂 the podfic version by quietnight is spectacular too.
8) A world like ours by LeMera (Agha) (E, 41,359) - “Bucky didn't know how they ended up in this medieval, fake reality. He didn't know why he remembered the real world but Sam didn't. But he knew one thing: he had to keep Sam safe. Even if Sam had no idea who he was.”
This one is not as fluff as I usually go, there’s some dubious consent in there, but the idea of a medieval AU just is so fascinating that I had to throw it in. It’s a wonderfully crafted piece as well.
Those are some of my fav fics, but let me also promote myself a bit at the end. I write something called Bucky Quest!
While it’s not completed, it’s a fascinating tale that starts at the end of Captain America: the Winter Soldier and continues past The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, telling the story in between what happens in both the films and the series between Sam and Bucky. I try my best to keep canon compliant throughout the parts that are within canon, and try to see a fun branching timeline that could be possible in the MCU in another reality once I start writing past the canon.
