Thinking about your SwapStobotnik again and post SM4/Stones crash out and him just being a nervous clingy dog to Ivo and Ivo has to leave little notes for him that he’s okay and just using the bathroom (otherwise Stones panicking that’s it’s not real and he’s actually dead and running around the lab in a panic state) or Ivo gives him a little heartbeat monitor for Stone to listen to his heartbeat to calm him down till Ivo gets back. (And Stones much needed therapist trying to help him give space and he growls in frustration but also listens cause he wants to try to better for Ivo)
Also what would SwapStobotniks crash out for SM4 look like vs OG Stobotnik? Would there still be metal sonic for both? Would they have similar plans (either destroying the world or trying to get Ivo back somehow) That’s if we’re getting villian Stone which hopefully we are. And would the eventual return of their respective Doctors be the same/ aftermath of telling theirs Agents “hey I’m alive stop destroying everything”? Like would OG Stone also be very clingy towards his doctor?
( don’t know if this makes any sense but I just love the idea of sad little swap Stone clingy to the doctor with sad eyes. Like man went from 🤬 to 🥺😢. Like holding his doctor hand like a little kid scared to go to kindergarten)

So, allow me to paint a picture of how sm4 and afyer would look like in my head (this isnt really following the plot of what I think/ would like to see happen in the movies, cuz swap goes fully mad):
Trigger warning for sh, severe mental breakdowns and attempts at one’s life.
So, as we know, stone does NOT like that the doctor is gone and is like actually fuckjng going insane. Like, he has fully snapped and his mind is in shambles.
Not only is he depressed and has tried to end it several times, but I’m talking like full on Phycosis type of thing. He starts hearing a voice that he thinks is robotnik, sees what he thinks is the doctor about, sometimes even feels the soft touch of the man. Which is when he starts getting delusions. He is convinced that he can become god and remake everything.
Which is how he starts construction on metal.
In the canon, I think that while yes, stone is 100% not in his right mind. He is still lucid/ sane enough to keep a level head and keep his eyes on the prize.
Swap is absolutely not. He is having mood swings, violently lashing out, tearing shit to pieces, random and maniacal laughter only to switch up and then scream in anger, the works.
Anyways, as said, in this universe he is too unstable to know what he wants to do. So while he wants to revive the doctor, he wants to do it after he has destroyed the world.
Anyways so blah blah blah, he finally reunites with Ivo (which in both versions would look like this, just swap has his hair, massive facial scars, one eye looking all strange and is wearing his glasses) where the whole delusion crap crumbles and he has a massive breakdown, sobbing uncontrollably to the point of almost throwing up, and grasping desperately onto Ivo’s legs n allat. And then he starts his recovery process of… well… his mind having been shattered.
(And yes, 1000% canon stone will be much more clingy once he is reunited with Ivo, probably just as bad as swap stone, but idk)
And now for the fallout!:
Ivo and stones relationship is very strained. Stone won’t let Ivo out of his sight, but at the same time is too scared to do so face-to-face. Robotnik doesnt like being watched by his own badniks one bit, but he tries his best to understand. And it is like that for a very long time.
Until stone wakes up from a nightmare one day and goes to check on Ivo only to see that he isnt in bed. He begins to panic and goes searching for the man himself, only to find him awake and in the kitchen.
Finally, after months of not having been face to face, Ivo can see his agent and they then go cuddle together, Ivo making a mental note of needing to address the scars that litter stones arms.
So yeah, stone will start freaking out if he isn’t touching the doctor. it can be by holding his hand, sitting in his lap while he works, resting his head on the man’s thigh. It doesn’t matter.
It does get a little annoying at one point, so robotnik installs a heartbeat tracker in stones watch he that he can both feel and hear that the other is alive.
Sorry if this is long, I have been thinking of writing something for this au for a little while now, but due to other things that I am working on as well, I can’t really fit it in. But if anyone should ever want to play with these silly little guys, then please tag me cuz I would love to see it!
