It was late, training was over for the day, darkness had fallen over the capitol and Emilia couldn’t sleep. Her mind was racing as if trying to keep up with the heartbeat she could hear echoing behind her ears. So there she stood, alone, in the middle of the training room, trying to calm her mind, make herself focus on something other than the fact she was away from her children for the first time since their birth, or the fact the last time she’d been in this building, in this room it’d been with both Mandi and Diana alive - again, or the fact that she was once again responsible for two children’s lives. It was enough to make her vision darken and her chest constrict.
But no. Deep breath in, focus, deep breath out. Her fingers rose the bow, lining the arrow up with the target across the room. Deep breath in, pull the string back. Deep breath out and -- the door banged shut just as she released the arrow. Her aim jerking as she herself startled. She looked around quickly before her eyes landed on the person who’d joined her. “Could’ve shut the door quieter.” She snapped in irritation. She didn’t want company. She just wanted left alone.
