(I'm the one who said that I'm more hurt by the community's reaction to Gab's racism!) This blog seems more open to discussion so I just want to address a recent post in the community saying that Gab can't be racist because she lived in Japan/speaks the language. If a white person moved to a predominantly black country then said,"but of course they fucked it up because black people always fuck up everything," is that still okay? Or is that quote (only changed the race) suddenly really racist? /1

To me, they're both racist. It hurts when I see posts made by random people telling me, a Japanese person who lived in Japan until I was 11, that Gab wasn't racist. She was. She knows that what she said must be bad because she made that video private. If she apologized and understood how much what she said has the capacity to hurt, I could forgive her. Via lack of apology, I think she still believes what she said is right. The reaction from the community hurts more as I used to feel welcome. /2

I agree with you, although I understand how she must have felt comfortable saying that because she lived there for so long. However, that is not a good excuse At All. Just because you live in a foreign country does not give you the right to make racist remarks about the people in that country. In fact, you should know better than that because you lived there. 

I worry about the lack of apology too. She hasn’t even acknowledged it except deleting the stream, I believe? (Please correct me if I’m wrong!) It doesn't give me hope that she will ever address things.

GG is definitely more about speculation than fact, but there are sources on there. People have saved clips of Gab's racism, written out transcripts of her videos when she says something questionable, and have just exposed that the patreon she said she closed is back up under her actual name instead of her old username. People also worked out that she's currently earning around 90k a year with twitch+youtube+patreon. If you look, there are sources but it takes way too much digging sometimes.

Ah okay, thanks for informing me about all this. So it sounds like unless there’s screenshot/video evidence, we should take it all with a grain of salt, yes?

It sucks that people are devoting their time to digging up dirt about YouTubers...I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but I’d like to keep the stuff we talk about in a certain bubble. My goal is to better this community, because I find topics like this so interesting. It fascinates me that we can have two extremes of such divisive talk where both sides thinks they’re right beyond doubt. I want to see how we can change to have a more open environment, so my goal really isn’t to discuss the dirt that people spend hours on end to find.

I really would love it if one of the more “popular” blogs, or one of the blogs that would defend Sean to the death have a conversation with me, whether it be in reblogs or DMs. I’m of course not going to go harass them in their DMs, I’ll wait for them to come to me, but I worry I will have to wait a long time.

Japanese anon (JA for short?) here again! She didn't deleted the video. It's privated. I think deleting a video would bring a lot more attention to it. A private video can still be accessed if you have a direct link, so people don't might not notice the little "private video" text above the title. It's like she knows she messed up but she also doesn't disagree with the racism. She apologized for the diet she suggested, why not the clear racism unless she still thinks that she's right?

Oh, thank you for letting me know! I’ll correct that in my original post. You’re right, deleting the video would draw a lot more attention. You’re also right in that it’s concerning that she apologized for the diet tweet and not this.

I suppose she’d rather avoid the hassle, and there will be no hassle if we let it slide.

Tattoo context: Gab missed a day of VidCon because she was getting tattoos. The tattoos are skeletons in a traditional Japanese style. A day before she got the tattoos, she replied to her friend, Sinow, who had tweeted a piece of artwork he got from a Resident Evil game (a skeleton wearing a pirate hat). Some people think she cancelled turning up to a day of Vidcon to get tattoos. Anyone who has ever got tattoos knows that you book an appointment days in advance if you're getting unique tattoos.

Anyways, thank you for providing context. Yeah, the argument against her in this case seems to be based more on speculation than fact. Thank you for clearing things up :3
