At first, he’s going to act human. Not many humans will ever know that he is actually an angel. You’ll fall for his sass; the way he can turn anything into a joke, the way he lights up whenever you laugh, and his not-going-to-take-anyone’s-shit attitude. His eyes will mesmerize you. The way the sun hits them juuuust right and the flecks of goldish-brown that dance just for you.
He will spoil you. You will think that it’s because he gets you, which he does, but that’s because he can read your mind. This will annoy you whenever you are upset with him because he will always win arguments simply because he already knows what you are going to say and why you’re mad.
He’ll tell you that he’s an angel before you make any physical contact because he wants to be the one to tell you, not his body. When you first go to run your hands through his hair, his halo will slice your palm. It will hurt. He’ll heal you immediately, and leave before you even get a chance to process what just transpired. He will be gone for a week. You will ask yourself what you did wrong. You will pray to him and tell him how sorry you are because you will think that you disrespected him in some way because you don’t understand. Later, he will tell you that he didn’t realize how fragile humans are. When he explains what it takes to make an angel bleed, you will begin to understand.
He doesn’t eat. This will throw a wrench in your plans for date night when he spends the entire meal watching you, and not eating. You will ask him why he hasn’t touched his food and he will take a single bite, for you. Little do you know that he doesn’t taste how the spices in the sauce come together to deliver the best taste you’ve ever experienced. He will only taste the molecules, and they don’t taste great, but he’ll do anything to please you.
He’ll take you places that you never even knew existed. Nauru being one of them, when you look up the country you will see that only 200 tourists visited in 2011. Gabriel will take you there because it’s quiet and the coral reefs are loaded with exotic wildlife so you will go snorkeling here. Kyrgyzstan is a country trapped between mountain ranges so the locals mostly ride horseback. Gabriel will jokingly ask you if you want to play kyz kuumai, a local game where a man on horseback tries to steal a kiss from a woman on horseback, and if he fails she beats him with a whip.
Ask him about the things you love, like the cosmos. He’ll tell you how amazing it looks and how it was all made if you want to know. He’ll take you to the darkest place on Earth so you can look up and see more stars than you could have ever thought were possible. He’ll point out each planet and tell you about them in so much detail. You can ask him anything, but whatever you do, do not ask about the others. The other angels, Lucifer, Michael, or any of the others. Don’t ask because he will change before your very eyes. He will become a soldier. Never ever ask about God, do not ask about rebellious older brothers and absentee fathers, do not infer about a war you know nothing of.
His wings are a big deal. No angel will ever show a human their wings, but Gabriel will show you his because he is so deeply in love with you that he doesn’t care. You will be in awe of just how big his wings are. You will ask him how he can possibly fit inside a room, let alone fit through the door. He will show you how his wings fold up and press against his body so tightly that they just look like a tattoo on his back. He will use his wings to shield you from any pain and suffering. He will wrap you up in them and you will feel safer than you ever have before. He will allow you to run your hand through his feathers. He loves it, maybe a little too much.
The sex will be extraordinary. His grace will surround you, caressing you, not in a sexual way, but in a soothing way. He saves all the sexual stuff for his body only. He will leave a trail of kisses along your skin that you will feel for years. The way his body fits with yours will feel like you are right where you need to be, who you need to be with. He will make your body sing, you will praise his name, and you will whisper your prayers against his lips. He’ll already know where all your soft spots are, because he knows you better than you know yourself.
But most of all, the heartbreak will be the worst. Knowing you don’t belong together, but still trying to make it work will tear you in two. You will spend that first night without him crying until you can’t breathe, or even speak. It will hurt knowing that he can hear your cries, but knowing he won’t come. He won’t look at you the same way ever again. That soldier I mentioned? That’s what he becomes to avoid showing you how he really feels. Deep down, you will know that somewhere in there, he is hurting too, and somehow, that makes it even worse.
I’m writing this to tell you of my experience with Gabriel. I have and always will love him, but our time is over now. Take care of him, because I know he will take care of you. Don’t ask him why we broke up, because it was my decision, not his. Give him everything you have to offer, you won’t regret it. I hope you are the one for him.

When you first met the Trickster, you felt nothing but resentment for the creature, especially after you learned his true persona. It only made you more hostile towards angels. But when Gabriel had saved you and the Winchesters from Lucifer by faking his own death, the two of you formed a bond of trust, which with time turned into a friendship. His act of heroism showed you that angels other than Castiel could be good and trustworthy; that some had faith in humanity. He proved to you he saw your species more than cockroaches.
Over the years, your friendship grew stronger. The pair of you became best friends. Often when you were without a hunt or while Gabriel wasn't focused on hiding from his brothers, the two of you would spend time together. Gabriel flew you to foreign places and showed you to love mischief. He'd taught you to prank Sam and Dean on multiple occasions. You'd bake the angel tasty treats, which both Sam and Dean claimed was "feeding a stray cat", due to the growing rate Gabriel's visited you.
The Winchesters despised your friendship with Gabriel from the start, but after moving to the bunker, they grew accustomed to the annoyance of the angel popping out of nowhere in search of you. They learned to direct him to your location as quickly as possible to get rid of him. Which was understandable, given the number of times Gabriel killed Dean in an infinite loop.
Today was one of those days where Gabriel popped into the bunker, and the two of you did absolutely nothing but watch Netflix in your room. Always was there a small tub of popcorn between the two of you. However Gabriel never touched the snack, the only salted food he enjoyed involved caramel. Which, he'd brought into your room a few too many times, almost always leaving it stuck to your sheets.
You stretched as the credits rolled on the last episode of Stranger Things, slightly saddened that there weren't more episodes to watch yet. You rolled off the bed and heard a small whimper come from the angel beside you.
"I'll be right back," you assured with a smile tugging at your lips from his immaturity. "I gotta pee."
"By all means," Gabriel waved you off. "Leave me in the show hole... all by my lonesome."
You clicked our tongue with a small roll of the eyes. "They're filming season two right now. You're fine."
As you tottered out of the room, Gabriel took the remote from your side of the mattress, flipping through the recently added section, looking for one show in particular. Once the server landed on the title, he hit pause, waiting for your return.
When you came back through the doorway, you glanced at the screen. "For a heart-broken guy, you sure moved on quickly."
"Shh," he patted your seat twice. "Sit. Let the wonders of television rot your brain."
You smirked, obeying his wish, you sat back beside him, laying your legs out in front to you. Gabriel's selection resumed, and you watched curiously as Netflix Original Series manifested on the screen. Then word by word, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events appeared, followed by the theme music.
"Awe, thanks, Gabe." You turned to the archangel. "How'd you know that I've meant to watch this?"
Gabriel smirked at you. "You're going to miss the introduction if you keep talking." Typical of the archangel to keep his secrets to himself.
With a smirk of your own, you turned back to the screen, watching the young children on the beach skipping rocks polished by Sunny's teeth. You easefully rested your head on Gabriel's shoulder, nothing out of the ordinary.
Then you felt it. The angel's two lips were pressing against your hairline, warm and soft against your forehead. You honestly didn't know if he was savoring the kiss, or if time slowed, but you swore several seconds went by before his lips pulled away. Regardless, you were disheartened when the connection was lost, wanting him to do more with his lips.
But instead, you and Gabriel continued to watch the children as their adventure began, but you found yourself unable to focus on the series as you lay, with butterflies fluttering vigorously within your stomach. Something about the small notion of Gabriel's affection drove you mad. It wasn’t the first time.
In recent weeks, small kind acts by Gabriel left you giddy and heartstruck. Within this time, you've felt your relationship with Gabriel shift. The archangel used more sincerity, exhibiting a kinder more considerate side to himself than you believe existed. The archangel was more than pranks and sarcasm. Even after years of friendship, the hard shell around his heart hadn't cracked, until now.
But not for a second did you believe Gabriel, an archangel, would dare feel anything romantic towards you.
"Is something wrong?" Gabriel's voice jarred you from your thoughts.
"I'm good," you said all too quickly, not daring to take your eyes off the screen to face him.
You could feel the archangel's eyes resting on you, and your breath hitched nervously, ultimately giving yourself away. It was never easy to trick the trickster.
"I can feel your energy," Gabriel reminded. "Don't make me read your mind."
You took your head off his shoulders, locking eyes with his briefly before looking at your hands in your lap. The Netflix series continued to play, but neither you or Gabriel thought to pause it.
"Y/N?" Gabriel rubbed a comforting hand on our back, realizing the seriousness of the situation. "What is it?"
Anxious at the thought of telling Gabriel how you felt, you remained silent. The image of Gabriel disappearing at the mention of your affections made your stomach queasy. What if your friendship would become impaired if he didn't reciprocate your feelings, or worse, never spoke to you again. What if it was silly for a human to fall for an angel?
"Sugar, I'm not kidding. I'll scan through your mind faster than I can piss off Samsquash."
"I think," you began, realizing Gabriel was near the point of breaching your mind; that the truth was enviable to come to the surface. "I'm starting to fall in love with you."
With hardly a second of hesitation, Gabriel smirked. "Well, it's about damn time," As you turned to face him, his palm was already cupping your face, leaning down to capture your lips.
The moment your lips met, explosions went off in your brain, as though you'd injected yourself with liquid ecstasy. Chills ran down your spine as you both savored the taste of one another.
When you had to pull away for to breath, you gazed at the archangel dumbfounded. "Why didn't you say something before?"
"And what, be the first one to say I love you... as if," Gabriel said with an eye wiggle. You laughed as Gabriel inched forward to rekindle the kiss.
