Opened in 1963 as Gabe’s Motor Inn, this round building was once the tallest in Owensboro, Kentucky. It featured a pastel-paneled façade, 12th-floor restaurant and a rooftop swimming pool. Over the next few decades, the tower went through multiple owners and at one point, operated as Owensboro Junior College of Business.
It finally closed for good in 2001. Years later, a failed renovation gutted its interior. Preservation groups and community members attempted to save it but Gabe’s was eventually demolished in June 2020.
