It was a rather slow day at Seattle Grace Hospital today; there weren’t many surgeries that male nurse Gabriel Lane could scrub in on and many of the doctors were simply making their rounds and checking on patients. There were those who came in for a stomach flu or a sprained wrist, but there was no major trauma and, although it did make their day rather boring, that was a good thing. Gabriel was on his way to check on a patient for Dr. Bailey when several doctors burst into the ER, rushing a gurney carrying a young dark haired female into an isolated area. He heard one of the doctors call a code blue - cardiac arrest. ‘’Lane!’’ Chief Hunt called, ‘’Get in here!’’ Immediately, Gabriel sprang into action.
‘’Twenty-seven year old female, two gun shot wounds to the chest, blunt force head trauma. Medics said she had lost a lot of blood at the scene. Heart rate and blood pressure are dropping ,’’ a doctor summarized. ‘’Okay. Lane, set up a line, push 50 cc of epi, get some gauze to stop this bleeding, I want an X-Ray ordered to see what’s going on inside as well as a CT scan, and let’s get the defib in here just in case, stat!’’ Gabriel turned to the small cabinet and fished for the epinephrine. He grabbed a IV tube and inserted it into the woman’s vein, pushing the needle of the drug into the tube and into her vein. As the doctors worked on her, he took the chance to lean close to her ear and whispered, ‘’Hey, you’re gonna be okay. You gonna fight, alright? You can do this, you can pull through!’’ He hoped she heard him.
