A look into Evie and Jacob’s past, and delving into the pasts of their parents and uncle. (info under the readmore!)
Evie and Jacob’s mother, Jasmine Salazar (formerly Hawthorne), and her twin brother were born in North America, and had attended the wizarding school, Ilvermorny, for the first four years. After conflict with their mother and father on their beliefs (their mother was a stern supported of purebloods elitism/superiority), their father cut ties and fled to Britain, with the twins in tow. They began schooling at Hogwarts, transferring properly and were sorted into their Houses at the beginning of their fifth year.
They adjust to their life in Britain and in Hogwarts, and soon both befriended popular and mischievous Gryffindor, Gabriel Salazar. During the course of their friendship, Alder begins developing feelings for Gabriel, but is ultimately rejected once Gabriel himself reveals his own feelings for Alder’s sister, Jasmine. The rejection, coupled with the budding relationship with his sister and Gabriel’s pureblood superiority beliefs surfacing, causes a rift in their friendship, and Alder begins fearing Gabriel’s influence on Jasmine. She begins to take an interest in Alchemy, and Gabriel pursues the Dark Arts. Alder asks for additional help from Dumbledore to pursue a career as an Auror, fearing the worst.
Alder’s warning falls on deaf ears as Jasmine and Gabriel marry a few years after they graduate from Hogwarts. A year later, Jacob Salazar is born. During this time, Jasmine becomes deeply unhappy with her life and her failure to pursue her passion in Alchemy, and becomes obsessed with her research. Alder becomes an Auror, and Gabriel falls frequently ill.
Ten years later, Evie Salazar is born, and in a desperate attempt to reach a breakthrough in her research, Jasmine manages to place alchemical runes on her child, purifying runes meant to transmute her blood into that of similar properties of unicorn blood, and encourage life longevity, in search of immortality, but has unknown side-effects in the future.
Jacob begins his schooling at Hogwarts, and starts his pursuit of the rumored Cursed Vaults, hoping the Vaults offer something powerful enough to rid his sister of the runes that plague her.
A year later, Gabriel leaves his family and joins forces with the Death Eaters. Jasmine becomes as distant with her children and as obsessive with her alchemy as ever. Gabriel returns three years later, with the intention to take Jasmine with him. She is easily convinced, and attempts to take Evie, but is stopped when they are intercepted by Aurors, summoned by a charmed badge given to Jacob by Alder, who instructed him to use it when Gabriel returned (something he had anticipated and feared).
With both parents gone, Evie and Jacob are taken under Alder’s care.
