Repose en paix, Gabrielle Roy.  Considered by many to be one of the most important Canadian writers, and probably *the* most important Canadian author writing in French, Roy was born in Manitoba, lived in Quebec and abroad, and ultimately died on this date in 1983 at the age of 74 in Quebec City.
