@gabzwrld : you should know me by now. hiccup & astrid.
in another world, he would have tripped over his own foot trying to respond. but this is not the boy who hid behind blacksmith smoke and sarcasm he often has to remind himself, this is the boy who tamed dragons. the wind is merciless at this height. astrid leans forward ahead of him, laughter torn loose by speed, braid whipping back like a battle banner. toothless dips sharply just to show off, and hiccup swears the dragon is smirking. hiccup squints against the wind, grinning despite himself. she’s right (she almost always is) but he’s never going to make it that easy. he shifts his grip, leaning into the turn as toothless banks hard over the cliffs of berk, dragons wheeling beneath them like sparks caught in an updraft. ❝ oh, i know you, ❞ he calls back, voice bright with mischief. ❝ you’re about to pretend this isn’t a race, and then get very competitive when i pass you. ❞ toothless dives suddenly, and hiccup whoops as the ground rushes up to meet them before pulling sharply into a climb. the sea flashes silver below. the village is smaller from here, softer somehow. he levels out beside her, just close enough that their shoulders almost brush. ❝ you don’t like losing, ❞ he adds, teasing but warm. ❝ and you definitely don’t like being wrong. ❞
